also there is no doubt about his singing prowess or versatility, considering how so many are tone deaf..here is a singer who is pitch perfect with his riyaaz and sur and taal..

I would rate him as the best live singer in the recent times..

Arijit on the contrary has a unique voice which is why he is the flavour of the season, but he is just plain boring to listen to in live shows.

++++++++++++++++

KK - is equally fabulous on stage..boy the way he rocked O Meri Jaan from Metro - heaven!

Ya I used to think so (about the tonal quality, I mean). I found the tonal quality of say a kk, or Shaan much better. But I'm having to revise my feelings in the past few days. I don't know what it is about his songs, (really haven't been able to pinpoint what it is about him), maybe it's the pathos he brings or maybe it's just that he has been lucky with the songs he got, or maybe it's just the perfection of his rendition but you can't stop listening to him. His voice directly gets to you and hooks you. I haven't been able to stop playing his songs for the past few months now. Plus he has so many songs, with so much of variety, its impossible to get bored.

Seriously I'm trying to stop listening to him. It's impossible! I keep going back for more.

Like I was listening to arijit the other day, the first song was amazing but by the third song I was bored.

Live rendition of satrangi re is my favourite live rendition of his till date!!!

Lots of people don't like his voice since it's thin and high pitched. But he stopped copying Rafi a long time back and developed his own style. Besides everyone gets inspired by someone some time. You see so many youngsters influenced by Sonu's style of singing. 😉

I agree about that. His voice is thin and therefore I wouldn't say he is among my favourites, but that is a subjective thing. He is undoubtedly very talented.

Yes. He is one of those few singers who has never stopped working on his short-comings. Be it Bringing different textures into a song or chianging the range or fusing western and Indian. He has done this, done that. Done it all. It's a testament to his immense hard work and talent that inspite of having not the best of the voices, he gets us hooked.

thin voice doesnt mean bad voice ..Muhammad rafi is also a thin voice yet he is God of all singers...its his signature style ...he has been blessed with soft voice the softness he put in songs no other singers can do it as soft as him i call him velvety voice or the makhmali voice in hindi/urdu which is more romantic and melodic...in india no singer has been gifted with such melodious as sonu nigam have not even my other fav beautiful voice of udit narayan , udit sound dry in some songs perhaps thats the reason karan johar asked for sonu to sing suraj huwa madham which required hardcore soft texture which was suppose to sing by udit narayan ...although sonu can change his voice to any sound he can sing heavy like adnan sami but his natural texture is soft .
this much softness only he can sing

a little bit yes, his voice is thin and shaky at time when he goes up octaves and he has a tendency to overexpress himself. He is specialized in soft romantic tracks that suit him.

Udit and Sonu have different voice types, so their voices suit different kinds of songs.
I guess in the 90s, Suraj Hua Madham would have gone to someone like Kumar Sanu, as his voice is softer. Sanu didn't sing that much after 2000; not sure why.
