Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan or Aamir Khan: Who has ruled this decade? Let's find out...
Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan are three of the biggest superstars of not just India but the world...While Shah Rukh Khan, ruled the 90's and better part of 00's, the equations have changed, so who is the real King now?

Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan are three of the biggest superstars of India right now. Since the '90s, they have been ruling the roost, while for the most part it was Shah Rukh Khan, his peers Aamir Khan and Salman Khan, too, weren't far behind. However, in the past decade things have taken a huge turn and Shah Rukh Khan has sort of lost his numero uno position as Aamir Khan and Salman Khan caught up with him.
So, since 2007, it has been a game of upmanship between the three superstars. Let's take a look at how their films have fared since 2007 and who has been indeed the King of this decade Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan or Aamir Khan...
As we can see in the table above, the decade started with Shah Rukh Khan's blockbuster but little did he know that it would be the last time in the next ten years or so that his film would be the highest-grosser of the year. In 2008, he came up with blockbuster, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and film was indeed the highest-grosser of the year, until Aamir Khan's onslaught at the box office with Ghajini. Ghajini not only became the highest-grosser of the year, it also became the first film to start Rs 100 crore club. Also read: Evolution of the brand Shah Rukh Khan
While everyone was astonished at the business of Ghajini, the very next year, in 2009, Aamir Khan left everyone dumbstruck as 3 Idiots became the first film to start the Rs 200 crore club at the domestic box office. While making Rs 100 crore at the Indian box office was a dream for many, Aamir Khan was in now the Rs 200 crore club. However, Salman Khan, who had a rough decade or so before that, came on his own with Dabangg, as his cop drama became the highest-grosser of that year and the third film to gross more than Rs 100 crore. The next two years were ruled by Salman Khan, as Aamir Khan came up with two releases, an off beat Dhobi Ghat and mystery thriller, Talaash. However, it was Shah Rukh Khan, who finally found himself in Rs 100 crore club with Ra.One and Don 2: The King Is Back.
By now there were quite a few films in the coveted Rs 100 crore club but Aamir Khan was the only one in the Rs 200 crore club. But that changed in 2013, as Shah Rukh Khan's hurricane at the box office came in the form of Chennai Express. The film, at the time, broke all the records and became the highest-grosser of not just the year but of all time, beating Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots and becoming the second Rs 200 crore film. However, the very same year, Aamir Khan again broke the record as his Dhoom 3 released and ultimately became the highest-grosser of the year.
Year 2014 again belonged to Aamir Khan as he started Rs 300 crore club with PK. In 2015, Salman Khan, too, joined the club with Bajrangi Bhaijaan but was unable to break PK's record. In 2016, Salman Khan's Sultan became his second film to break into the Rs 300 crore club, however it was Aamir Khan's Dangal that ultimately became the highest-grosser of the year and also of all time.
This year, so far, it is Shah Rukh Khan's Raees that is ruling the charts but the record might soon be broken by Akshay Kumar's Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. This year will also see the release of Ajay Devgn's Golmaal Again, Aamir Khan's Secret Superstar and Salman Khan's Tiger Zinda Hai. I think at the end it'll be Salman Khan's Tiger Zinda Hai, that'll be the highest-grosser of the year. So while Shah Rukh Khan has only one highest-grosser of the year, it is Aamir Khan who is the King as of now as he had five of them, compared to Salman Khan's four.
