I blame nepotism, over relying on stars instead of content, bad writing, under paying writers and lack of focus on script and characters..

For years when it came to Salman khan and shahrukh khan... the script was second fiddle.. the result Salman put out horrible movies like ready bodyguard jai ho kick.. don't get me started on srk.. who hasn't made a decent movie since cdi..

It is not like suddenly the quality of Bollywood movies has gone down. We always had good and bad movies.

The problem could be the huge budgets? It seems like they are spending way too much money on making and promoting movies that do not even justify such expenses.
Like, I can totally see why they spent bucket loads of money on making Bahubali. But why do regular romcoms and love stories need huge budgets?.. and then they cannot recover their money.

Ticket (and popcorn 😆) prices also are so high, it may not seem worthwhile to most people to go to the movies, unless they see good reviews all around.

Nahi, kuch taste better nahi hua. It's just more and better contents are easily available now. Plus, Bollywood can't properly plan their budget. They should act accordingly and slim down the budget. It's still pretty much all hype+some starpower+okay content. It hasn't changed all that much. Salman was just doing a boring film that's out of his range or genre in Tubelight. SRK has been letting down people forever and he looks too old for breezy romcoms so this was expected. This whole ~people now care for content~ is not a right statement yet. Sure, they do care a bit more now but they aren't watching great films by total unknowns. Starpower matters a lot. It's the availability of diverse content that is to blame.

Pehle to multiplexes should reduce their ticket prices. Watching a movie for a family of four would cost about 1500-2000 rupees which is simply unfeasible for simple middle class family to do every month. So they just wait for movies whose reviews are universally praised or festivals where they won;t mind spending that money. Further with internet rates getting cheaper and speed getting faster and with each passing year more and more people are getting exposed to far superior content of foreign movies and tv show. People will definitely start to hold bollywood movies to higher standards. Second bollywood need to control the budget of movies including the cost at which they sells it to distributors.

I agree with everyone especially with @09tanki and @cougartown
These days no one likes to experiment. They think that audience is a fool. But we are given many options and also with Amazon Prime Video and Netflix we can watch the movie at the comfort of our home. Also the high price of tickets in multiplexes. People want to watch a movie that is worth their money.
Also I never understood the need of reviving old songs. Have the lycricist lost their creativity. This decade is worse for music.

Off the topic I like the username of yours @09tanki
And the Jennifer Aniston dp is beautiful @cougartown

Many factors. WOM travels faster now...social media, reviews, asking friends and family before buying a ticket. Ticket prices are just too high that people want to know if movie is good or poor before buying the tickets. If not good they download via torrent or wait for the tv premiere unless they are die hard fans of the stars. Bollywood is not the only source of entertainment now. They have access to other languages and hollywood movies and foreign tv shows. So instead of spending their hard earned bucks they will just let it pass and watch something else for entertainment.

Also if bollywood is not making special effects movie and making rom com etc they need to cut down their budgets.

I think the 100 crore - 200 crore culture really spoiled BW. BW has become obsessed with numbers and the competition of numbers that it has failed in storytelling.. I used to think some of the 2000-2010 movies weren't all that great, but now looking back I can think of 3-4 movies every year that i loved in that decade...Not to say this decade has been any less. We had Dangal last year, but I have noticed over time in this decade every year there are hardly 2 movies that I love and that I find touching...The year starts off with multiple movies that a person wants to watch, but by the end of the year most of the movies end up disappointing and it is a smaller film that spreads through word of mouth that I end up loving...For the most part with movies it is just okay, I like this, or I like this only because everyone hated it... at least for me I have less movies that I found touching in this decade. I hope that changes in the next 3 years.
