Aamir is a painstaking actor who goes all the way to make a perfect film

Ranbir is an effortless, natural actor.

Aamir is more versatile in terms of movies he has done so far but Ranbir is a better actor in terms of being brilliant in most of his roles so far.

I think each are the best in their generation. Their knowledge of the craft of cinema, preparation for a role, hard work, ambition and commitment to make it happen are similar.
But I chose Ranbir by a touch because Aamir became the way he is later, Ranbir was always like this to my knowledge. But two actors who change BW for sure.

And today I watched Dil Chahta hai for the first time.
I don't know how boys feel when they fall in love but I could relate to Akash(aamir khan). He was reliable. But Ranbir's characters seem to be more of rotlu.

I had mentioned once, no one looked/looks best as chocolate hero as Amir did in QSQT or JJWS. But that is about his looks (He was quite young as well. In these films, he must have been younger than VD in his first film). But as for acting, these roles were nothing challenging. They can be done by other actors too.

Both (Amir, Ranbir) have limitations. They are not Kamal Hassan. But comparing Ranbir to Amir is not blasphemy. If Ranbir had opted for mainstream movies when he entered, no one would have questioned (It was the norm). After all, HR also had chosen the mainstream route. But Ranbir chose to do WUS with Konkona. One has to make ways. Ranbir tried. (Sometimes successful, sometimes failed). But thing is, he was not scared of experimenting since beginning.

Its not about look..It was about breaking norm, doing something that has not been tried before without the fear of failure. Aamir has done that again and again through out his career..There was that time when heros stuck to their image for long..Aamir did Rakh which is a anti hero role just after that blockbuster chocolate hero debut role.

Ranbir is not mainstream. As of now he has done nothing successful in mainstream area barring may be YJHD or APGK. Thats why he stuck to his genre where he is good. Aamir has failed more number of times than Ranbir. Still he continued doing Rakh, 1947 Earth, Gajhni, Mangal Pandey, Laagan, DCH,Talash or Dhobi Ghat or even the upcoming Secret superstar..Thats what for me is taking chances and experimenting.

Anyway this question was about acting capability and I feel Aamir was always an evolved actors..He changed his style and stayed relevant for years..

Aamir was my first favorite after AB. So normally I would choose Aamir with closed eyes. I have watched Aamir grow as an actor and his DCP Rathod still brings that rush. I love how after receiving poor reviews for Rakh, he learnt to hide his weakness and showcase his strength. He was meticulous and perfectionist. He has done so many memorable characters that I love in his 30 journey. A large corner of my heart is reserved for AB and Aamir.

But I have just watched Jagga, have seen the detailing Ranbir put in the character and revised my opinion. Ranbir has the Face that can launch thousand emotions. It reminds me of Guru Dutt. He can act with his eyes, raised eyebrow and hint of smile. He has shown tremendous growth as an actor that I never found in Aamir much as I love him. He is curious mix of method and natural actor. What he needs to learn from Aamir is to play on his strength and market himself well. 😊

Kuch bhi... He didn't get poor reviews for Raakh...Infact Raakh was one of his most critically acclaimed film of that time...He even won National Award special jury for Raakh...

i would have said ranbir in 2012 after barfi, since he is so young and he has a lot of potential... But the roles he picked in the last 5 years i found them to be disappointing... He is still better than SRK though.
aamir wins this one.. a much better actor and does a variety of roles...in the next 5 years i can expect more variety out of aamir than ranbir and aamir is a better actor too

LOL claims to love Aamir of the 90s but calls one of his most favorable roles poorly reviewed. Thanks for correcting Raj.
