Jagga Jasoos Box Office Collection: Prediction And Box Office Analysis

Finally, four years after its inception, Ranbir Kapoor Katrina Kaif starrer Jagga Jasoos is all set to hit the theatres this Friday; and the buzz around the Anurag Basu directorial is fairly high. The film is a musical adventure centred on the story of a boy in search of his father and has a quaint fantasy like backdrop.

Now that the film is all set to release, audience are looking forward to witness the world of Jagga. Since the budget has ballooned to a whopping 90 crores(excluding Ranbir's fee), the film needs to bring in serious monies from Day 1. But what will it take for this Anurag Basu directorial to live up to the trade expectations? Let's analyze its budget and other economics; the facets that could work in its favor and against it; and how much it ultimately needs to rake in at the box-office to be considered a commercial success.

Advantages

1) The combination of Anurag Basu and Ranbir Kapoor had worked wonders for Barfi, which also had an out of the box' storyline.

2) Ranbir Katrina Jodi has worked wonders in the past (Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Rajneeti), and the fans are waiting to see them together, possibly for the last time, onscreen.

3) The trailer and the promos of the film have a universal appeal, and the film should draw out the family audience in large numbers.

4) The music of the film has caught on really well, and almost all the songs have been appreciated.

Disadvantages

1) The budget of the film has ballooned out of proportion due to the delays, and anything less than 140 crores at the ticket window will make the film a disappointment for the trade.

2) Mom and Spider-Man: Homecoming are still going strong at the theatres, and War for the Planet of the Apes is also releasing on the same date, giving moviegoers plenty of alternatives.

3) Jagga Jasoos is a musical adventure, a genre which is not too familiar to the Indian audience, and that makes the probability of the audience giving the film a boot much higher.

4) Run time of the film is 2 hours and 42 minutes, and these days audience are wary of the films with run time more than 2 hours. It also decreases the number of shows being run in multiplexes.

We asked Trade Analyst, Rohit Jaiswal about his prediction for opening day and this is what he had to say,

"Considering the screen size and allotment of shows, the star power of Ranbir and Katrina, extensive promotional campaign, and the fact that Basu is releasing a film after 5 years, the trade is expecting minimum opening of 14 crores. If the film get positive response and evening shows pick up, then the collections may go upto 17 crores. Anything below 14 crores will be disappointing for the trade."

Going by those predictions and production cost, the film will break even at 100 crores, and needs to make atleast 140 crores to be declared a hit.

Even though the budget and the stakes are pretty high, if the end result clicks with the audience, the film could easily end up becoming a profit making venture for all entities involved.
