Bill Gates has said himself that he doesn't like being used as an example to put down education. He has stated that he actually had enough credits to graduate from Harvard but he didn't organize it properly or he could have gotten the formal degree. At the time he was too focused on working on the new computing industry. He's a huge believer in education and has said many times that he spends his free time even now taking online university courses.

Also Bill Gates was extremely intelligent and got into Harvard and was working on pathbreaking technology when average people are still trying to pass their classes. Most average people are not Bill Gates or Steve Jobs and it's delusional to use their example when not even the smallest percent of average people have their brains or skills. This is just a facile way to make yourself feel better - "oh Bill Gates also doesn't have a degree."

In fact, Ranbir himself has made fun of his studies in KWK. ( ).

Anyway, as audience who cares about his education level?
As I already said, one would prefer to watch Ranbir or Alia (who are not so educated) over Sushant or Kriti (who are qualified) as they are better actors.
One can't even say, it (education level) shows up when they speak. Amir, Sharukh, both can speak well, though one is qualified, other one is not. Similarly, Kareena, Sushant or Anushka all cannot comprehend, though their educational levels are different. Qualification is just another skill in a particular subject.

Being educated and being an articulate speaker are two very different things. The 1st ranker in class in not necessarily the most articulate one in the class and vice versa. Some individuals just know how to word their thoughts well. Sushant has time and again admitted that he is quite boring and struggles to put his thoughts out properly and in an interesting manner. However that doesn't take away from the fact that he was an AIEEE rank holder and a very good student.

Exactly, having a degree doesnt always make u a good orator and vice versa
A brilliant student can be bad at public speaking and a college dropout or failed student can make great speeches or be great at interviews.

^Everyone has different skills and college helps you define and refine whatever you are good at or interested in. I know in India it often doesn't work that way because people are pushed into certain careers but the original intent is that.

There are degrees in acting, communications, and even things like television production. It always helps to have a couple extra years of education after high school to help mature a person and expose them to people higher in their fields and make contacts and get some working experience.

Not everyone has a film family with built-in advantages that they don't need to make their own way. For a normal person to make it without a formal degree is very very hard.

everyone is born with their destiny ..if he was not destined to get good grades
he was still destined to make it large so he was born in kapoor khaandaan..
