I have no issues with Anushka's play on the accent.
My main problem is why was it needed in the first place? Any non-Punjabi character and the heavy accent will be enforced without fail! Irritating!

Exactly. It's very stereotypical. It's the same accent that is used in BW and TV to make fun of Gujjus.

For me, DP's accent in Piku was perfect. I didn't mind her accent in CE either. But I am not Bengali or Tamil so what do I know. If you got a problem with her accent in Piku then of course, you know better than others.

Likewise, being a Gujju, many of us are not ok with the way she is doing it. We are Gujju so we can take offense if we want.

DP's or for that matter anyone else's accent in other movies shouldn't be a benchmark for Anu to portray Gujju girl.

The stereotypical accent and representation is so overdone. And honestly.. it's so blah. Why not show something substantial and normal rather than always trying to make fun of us.

Movies and TV shows ALWAYS stereotype every region and state's culture, language and dresses.

They always show Bong ladies wearing the homely style saris, and speaking Hindi like this: Hum Korta haye, Hum jaata Haye...

That may have been true 50 yrs ago but nowadays very few Bong ladies wear saris that way or speak Hindi so atrociously.

DP barely spoke any Bengali in Piku and whatever Bongfied Hindi AB Sr spoke he had that typical accent shown for Bong characters in movies.

In Vicky Donor, Bongs were portrayed as stereotype introverts who dont dance at weddings, who speak Hindi with accent , so were Punjabis shown as being too fond of drinks and typical Balle Balle always hyper

Some of my South Indian friends were not at all happy with the way South people were portrayed or made fun of in CE, or DP and her family's thick accent

Its okay, Hindi is not our mother tongue so some of us may speak Hindi with an accent, and movies and TV shows will pick on that as a subject for humor and comedy. Take it with a pinch of salt and some SOH like we do for atrocious Bongfied Hindi in movies

People have again forgotten that Anu debuted with SRK as his female lead and this is her 3rd movie with him 😆

and they are also conveniently ignoring that last year Sultan Uncle was stalking and romancing Aarfa Bhatiji with vulgar dance moves 😆

I can't see them not hiring a coach when it comes to Anushka's accent here. I don't think she is just winging it as they say. I think she worked on her accent probably with someone who is indeed from Gujarat and can speak Gujarati fluently. Maybe I'm wrong about this but I feel that's what happens a lot of the times when it comes to such scenarios. You hire coaches who know a thing or two about what they are teaching you.
