Bahubali 2 Is The Biggest Hindi Blockbuster This Century
Thursday 08 June 2017 12.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network

Bahubali 2 - The Conclusion has emerged the biggest Hindi blockbuster this century as it became a bigger blockbuster than Gadar Ek Prem Katha (2001). Bahubali 2 has notched up 5.21 crore footfalls in Hindi in five weeks beating Gadar Ek Prem Katha which was 5.06 crore. These two films stand head and shoulders above the rest this century with both topping 5 crore footfalls. The others lag well behind with Dangal on 3.61 crore, Bajrangi Bhaijaan on 3.54 crore and PK on 3.50 crore. Bahubali 2 in Hindi is not the biggest blockbuster ever as Hum Aapke Hain Kaun had 7.40 crore footfalls in 1994 and there will probably be 8-10 other films topping 5 crore footfalls.

Basically Bahubali 2 (Hindi) is the biggest blockbuster this century and the second biggest blockbuster in the last 25 years after Hum Aapke Hain Kaun. In terms of all time it is probably in the Hindi top ten or at least very close to the top ten. The biggest achievement by Bahubali 2 (Hindi) is that 5 crore footfalls have come after 16 years and it looked as if it would never happen because films were struggling to even get close to 4 crore. This film has shown that blockbusters of epic proportions that can compete with legendary blockbusters are still possible. We were in a period that records were being broken every year or two but Bahubali 2 will change this as when in history a film like this has come then records have stuck for sometime. The hope will be that it does not take another 16 years to have a blockbuster of this level. The biggest Hindi blockbusters of the last 25 years with the adjusted nett gross (the older films are adjusted for 2016 levels as there is no Average Ticket Price for 2017 yet) are as follows.

1. Hum Aapke Hain Kaun - 7,05,00,00,000

2. Bahubali 2 - 5,04,00,00,000 apprx (40 Days)

3. Gadar Ek Prem Katha - 4,82,00,00,000

4. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge - 4,58,00,00,000

5. Raja Hindustani - 3,90,00,00,000

Bahubali 2 - The Conclusion (all languages) has close to 10 crore footfalls across India which is more than Hum Aapke Hain Kaun though its in four languages compared to the one of Hum Aapke Hain Kaun and even if we add Hum Aapke Hain Kaun in Telugu then Bahubali 2 (all languages) still remains well ahead.

If we take the 10 crore footfalls it still probably is not the biggest blockbuster ever in India as Mother India (1957), Mughal E Azam (1960) and Sholay (1975) will have more footfalls than Hum Aapke Hain Kaun and at least one if not all three will be more than 10 crore and they were just one format films.

You are in big delusion my friend if u think I or any Salman fan ever claim that... I Never said BIGGEST HIT EVER... i knew those 3 films above HAHK... which is like this

1. Sholay
2. Mughal-E-Azam
3. Mother India
4. HAHK

This will remain till the time any film comes & cross HAHK's Adj. Nett Figure with today's box office collection...

POINT Towards me if i was saying it is BIGGEST HIT EVER...

HUM AAPKE HAI KAUN

= Decade's BIGGEST HIT / GROSSER

= CENTURY's BIGGEST GROSSER - never said BIGGEST HIT, it was GROSSER means EARN Highest for that century.

Next time please check things before making threads like this which itself fire back 😆

You always have convenient excuses...so next time you want to mock films then compare with the top 3 films Sholay, MEA and Mother India instead of no. 4 film.

Mother India, Mughal E Azam, and Sholay came at a time when there was no TV or Internet; radio itself was a big deal back then and like 2% of people had radios. There weren't any entertainment magazines, or any other form of entertainment either.

HAHK came in the 90s at the brink of globalization. People finally had other forms of entertainment like radio, TV, entertainment magazines, etc.

Bahubali 2 came at a time when people have a wide array of entertainment options - Internet - and that brings along the whole spectrum. TV, Radio, Smartphones, Laptops, Videogames, Amusement parks, Malls, etc etc. And then there is the rampant piracy, which enables a viewer to watch a new film on its first day at the comfort of her home - for free. There are so many easy entertainment options available, and all of them for free. So if despite all this Bahubali 2 did what the earlier films did or more in terms of footfalls, it is simply unimaginable.

Considering all these external factors, it is easy to say Bahubali 2 is the biggest blockbuster ever in Indian cinema. It is a huge achievement for Rajamouli and Telugu cinema. 👏 And it shows the potential Indian films have, if they are able to make a truly stunning film (not just in content, but visually too). So I hope Bahubali only inspires more such passion projects in the future.

BB really teaches us that a good film will do well in spite of piracy being so rampant now

There are two sides to everything. Back in the days, nobody used to go to movie theatres that often. It was a once in a blue moon thing(I'm talking about metros, not small cities). People actually waited for World TV premiers. People preferred picnics to movies since movie was an expensive affair but now with cashback offers and mall culture in the country, I see families taking kids to movies and malls every weekend.

@Bold: That still holds true today. Less than 10% of India watches movies in theatres even now. Rest prefer it through television, internet, DVD, piracy, etc etc.

My point was despite having SO many alternatives, Bahubali triumphed and made almost the same impact or bigger impact than some of these all time hits, which wasn't the case with the latter as there were fewer options for people for entertainment back then.
