Exactly! Sivagami loved Amarendra a lot.. more than Bhalla too because Bhalla was more of a Daddy's boy..And Knowing that Bijjala hated Baahu, she probably tried to make up for it too.. and in this process, it became a bit of possessiveness too! She couldn't take it that her Baahu was going against her words.. If Bhalla had done it, I don't think she would've reacted this much.. Yes, she may have denied him the crown but she wouldn't have taken it this badly..Though Sivagami was wrong after a certain point in the movie, the expression she had when Baahu left.. she was definitely not happy about that ! Yes, she was the one who said Baahu was trying to become the king but still, the mother in her was there! She was truly sad about him leaving..
And maybe that is why she didn't understand Bhalla. She had raised up Baahu, so she knew him in and out. Bhalla was brought up by his dad. All she could see of Bhalla was the sacrificing act he was putting in front of her. And hence, she fell for it.
Deep down in her heart, she knew Baahu couldn't kill Bhalla. In Dandalaiyya song, both Sivagami and Amarendra were longing for each other. I had tears in my eyes at that time.
She trusted Baahu a lot, she wanted to be his everything. If Devasena was chosen by her, she'd have appreciated her (remember when she was seeing the portraits of potential brides. She wanted fire in their eyes that match Baahu). The fact that Baahu supported Devasena in front of the whole Maahishmati and said "thavaru/you're wrong" to her in front of all, that hurt, ego and pride blinded her. None ever dared to say no to her, and this coming from Baahu had hurt her a lot.
