The teaser of Salman Khan's Tubelight was released a couple of days ago. It was aired for the television audience across the Star TV network and for the internet audience on YouTube.

The response has been mixed and it's probably the weakest teaser of a Salman Khan film in a long time.

Teasers of event films are released to generate instant craze', which teasers of films like Ek Tha Tiger' and Sultan' did get, but Tubelight' hasn't. Even the Bajrangi Bhaijaan' teaser had those commercial ingredients - India/Pakistan, Bajrang Bali ka bhakt, Action, Romance/Kareena and Nawazuddin for those lighter moments. Tubelight' lacks almost all of it and relies almost entirely on Salman.

This has left a section of the industry and trade wondering why a teaser was required in the first place - when it didn't have action or those massy-elements that instantly generates hype around a film.

It could well be because the makers needed more time to get the trailer right and with less 2 months to go for the theatrical release, they wanted to put something out there for the fans and the audience.

The film has also been severely criticised across social and mainstream media for its similarities with the Hollywood film Little Boy' - even though the makers have officially credited it with Story Based on the Original Film - Little Boy' in the teaser itself.

Moving on to the more positive side of things, the response to the teaser simply does not matter. Salman Khan is too big at the moment and his films will be watched. Irrespective of the kind of response the teaser gets, audience are now saving money to watch his films during Eid.

Secondly, the mixed response to the teaser also means the makers have the opportunity to put all the negativity (Little Boy, etc) aside by the time the trailer releases in the last week of May.

And finally, the best part of the teaser seems to be Salman himself. The innocence of his character has generated curiosity and it's not the usual Salman that we get to see during Eid.

Whatever response teaser has got the reasons given are bullshit . Tubelight is not an action movie

It was underwhelming alright. I don't know how the film will turn out. But I haven't seen this kind of mixed response for a trailer/teaser of a Salman film since Jai Ho. Sohail is such a panuati man. 😛

The teaser makes Tubelight seem like Bajrangi II. It was poorly edited as well. I'm also very apprehensive of Kabir talking about Salman's acting more than the content of the movie. I have no doubt that Salman will deliver another honest performance in Tubelight, but here - Kabir is only talking about how great Salman's performance is, and not how great the movie is on its own.

Jeez, the cinematography and presentation--including Salman's hairstyle and acting--is Bajrangi-esque.

I'm not comparing Tubelight to Jai Ho. I'm talking about the overall response of the teaser. Even PRDP didn't have such a mixed response, and that was basically because everyone expected a family drama from Sooraj.

I have a problem when Salman does movies like Jai Ho, Dabbang 2, or Ready. I have no problem when he experiments. Tubelight isn't experimenting. It seems like Kabir Khan's personal way of milking another ATBB by manipulating Salman fans and presenting him as this dimwit with a heart of gold.

It doesn't work that way.

The movie won't be as bad as Jai Ho. That's a certainty. But all this mixed response is alarming. Bajrangi or PRDP didn't have such a mixed response. People were pleasantly surprised with Bajrangi's teaser and had already expected the expected from PRDP's trailer.

I hope I'm wrong. But the teaser of Tubelight didn't impress me. I can't ignore that Kabir delivered Phantom right after BB. I also can't ignore how Sohail is an expert in ruining Salman's golden run, whether it was after Biwi No. 1, HSSH, HDDCS with Hello Brother, or with Jai Ho after Dabbang, Ready, Bodyguard, ETT, and Dabbang 2.

I'll not judge Salman's performance in the movie just by a teaser, but he was definitely struggling in few scenes. This role was very challenging and needed a much better actor than Salman to do justice to it. I hope he doesn't ruins it. Kabir is only doing ass licking.
