The sound at 3:47 to 3:58 ...this piece always touches me ...which is the instrument ... this instrument sound is used in many other songs too but as of now i am posting this known one to me ...its not a guitar sound for sure

I think it is Santoor, string instrument from Jammu & Kashmir.

Shiva Kumar Sharma is a noted musician in Santoor. (Nothing to do with the song you posted). There are many videos of his concerts with Hari Prasad Chaurasia who plays Bansuri. Both of them teamed up as music composers by the name Shiv-Hari. They have not composed regularly for Bolllywood (I suppose only Yash Chopra movies). But the ones composed by them are quite memorable (like from the movie Silsila, Chandni and Lamhe).
