Why was Karan Johar missing from Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's father's prayer meet? Read Exclusive
Are Aishwarya and Karan not friends anymore?

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan held a prayer meet in honour of her father Krishnaraj Rai, who passed away on Saturday. The final rights were performed later the same evening, with all the members of the Bachchan family, a number of Bollywood stars and family friends in attendance to pay their last respects. On Tuesday, a small prayer meet was held in Mumbai, which saw a number of Ash's friends from the film fraternity stopping by to offer their condolences in her moment of grief. Aishwarya was seen arriving at the venue with her daughter Aaradhya and mother Vrinda. Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan along with Jaya and Shweta were all present at the prayer meet.
Twinkle Khanna with mother Dimple Kapadia, Sridevi, Vidya Balan, Shraddha Kapoor, Kajol, Ramesh Sippy, Ashutosh Gowariker, Abbas Mastan were others who were in attendance. Hiroo Yash Johar also was spotted at the venue, but what surprised everyone was the fact that she came without her son Karan Johar.
We know that Aishwarya and Karan share a very close bond, which is why everyone expected him to be by Aishwarya's side. But with Karan's absence, it's quite clear that things aren't the same between him and Aishwarya. And crack in their friendship started to appear during the promotions of KJo's last directorial venture, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, in which Aishwarya had an extended cameo, while Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma played the lead role.
Many of you might not know this, but Aishwarya and Anushka were to promote the film together but at that time Anushka was busy shooting for Imtiaz Ali's Rehnuma opposite Shah Rukh Khan and therefore Karan didn't want Aiswharya to promote the film alone. His reasoning was since Ash had a comparatively shorter role in the film while Anushka played the female lead, he didn't want a wrong message to go out to the audience about Aishwarya being the leading lady. Which is why barring one time when she appeared on Kapil Sharma's show with Ranbir and Anushka, Aishwarya wasn't roped in to promote the film.
A source close to both Ash and KJo revealed to India.com that Ash wasn't happy with the way she was kept away from the film's promotional events. The source said, "Post the success of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, KJo reached out to the actress expressing interest in doing another film with her, but she gave him a cold shoulder. They haven't been on great terms with each other ever since."
It can also be recalled that Karan Johar has confessed in the past that he is totally star struck by Aishwarya and felt that she is the only star in ADHM. He also shares a great bond with the Bachchan family. Also, the actor is very much in Mumbai and just last night hosted Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt for a quiet dinner. All this makes his absence from Aishwarya's father's funeral all the more shocking.
