Raees: Shah Rukh Khan, Mahira Khan Are Killing it With Their Intense Chemistry in Udi Udi Jaye

With just a day left for Makar Sankranti, people are obviously busy doing everything to spread the cheer. Interestingly, the makers of Raees have done their bit too to make the festive occasion a lot more special. They have released their festival song Udi Udi Jaye.

The song which features Shah Rukh Khan and Mahira Khan celebrate Gujarat's biggest kite flying festival.

Crooned by Sukhwinder Singh, Bhoomi Trivedi and Karsan Sagathia, Udi Udi Jaye show just how great Mahira and SRK look together. While the Pakistani actress looks phenomenal in a traditional outfit, SRK's intense looks are hard to ignore.

Mahira looks gorgeous as she performs traditional Gujarati steps in a red-yellow ghagra choli and SRK looks perfect in a white pathan suit. From garba to lighting sky with lanterns, they do it all.

The story of Raees is set in the 1980s and SRK essays the role of a Gujarati bootlegger. The film has been directed by Rahul Dholakia, and will be released on January 25.

Uttarayan/Makar Sankranti is almost here, but Raees makers have already released their festival song Udi Udi Jaye. Shah Rukh Khan and Mahira Khan looked phenomenal in the song, released on January 12, which celebrates Gujarat's biggest kite flying festival.

Sung by Sukhwinder Singh, Bhoomi Trivedi and Karsan Sagathia, Udi Udi Jaye gives a glimpse of the amazing chemistry between Mahira and SRK. While the Pakistani actress looks gorgeous in traditional attires, SRK nails it with his killer looks.

Mahira is seen wearing red-yellow ghagra choli and SRK has donned a white pathan suit with red dupatta around his neck. Both of them will be seen doing garba and will also light the sky with lanterns.

Shah Rukh shared the song on social media with a caption: "It's almost Makar Sankranti, dil ki patang dekho #UdiUdiJaye."

The story of Raees is set in the 1980s and SRK plays the role of a Gujarati bootlegger. Directed by Rahul Dholakia, the movie is set to hit screens on January 25. The film will clash with Hrithik Roshan-starrer Kaabil at the box office.

Makar Sankranti gets a Garba twist with Raees

Festivals in India always provide a perfect backdrop for music, dance, costumes and lavish sets to Bollywood filmmakers. Right from Ganesh Chaturthi to Diwali, Holi to Janmashtami, Bollywood films celebrate popular festivals with much fanfare and enthusiasm.

Makers of Raees came up with the perfect surprise for upcoming Makar Sankranti festival, albeit with a twist. They have added a beautiful touch of Garba and voila! The result is a melodious, foot tapping number titled Udi Udi Jaaye, which was released earlier today. We couldn't take our eyes off SRK and Mahira's sizzling chemistry, as they danced their way into our hearts with this vibrant, beautiful number. Interestingly, this is also the first time Shah Rukh Khan will be seen doing Garba on screen. Composed by Ram Sampath with lyrics by Javed Akhtar, Udi Udi Jaye is sung by Sukhwinder Singh, Bhoomi Trivedi and Karsan Sagathia.

Director Rahul Dholakia says, "Uttarayan is one of the biggest festivals in Gujarat and Garba is our state dance. No film rooted in Gujarat can be complete without having either of them. A majority of the writers were gujjus and we decided to incorporate a special song which also takes the story forward."

The filmmaker adds that a special manja (thread) was called in from Surat, "SRK's character in the film loves to fly kites and is an expert at cutting other people's kites. There is a dialogue in the film where Shah Rukh says, Agar Katne ka darr hota na, toh patang nahi chadhata, firki pakadta.' To give the authenticity to the character we decided to use Surti manjha, which is razor sharp. A couple of times during the shoot, he actually cut his fingers," he says. Well, like they say - no pain, no gain! The result is truly beautiful and we can't wait for January 25, 2017 already.
