Auto-tuning the hell out of an old classic does not make it a good song. If only Bollywood composers and singers realized this

"Old wine, new bottle," is the perfect description for the direction Bollywood music has taken with the practice of rehashing old hits with new beats. Out of the five music albums which release every month, atleast two borrow heavily from the archives. This could be a good thing but instead our composers are butchering the old melodies in an attempt to make them contemporary.

We want this trend to end and here is the evidence that rehashing an old song is never a good idea:

Ae Zindagi Gale Lagale

We wonder what Suresh Wadkar and Ilaiyaraaja would think of Alia Bhatt's version of Ae Zindagi Gale Lagale, the evergreen hit from Sadma (1983). Rehashed by Amit Trivedi for Dear Zindagi, the latest track has too many techno elements which is a total turn off. Somewhere in the middle of the track, the song suddenly bursts into EDM and makes you forget that the song is an emotional tune. The original by Suresh Wadkar is soulful and heartwarming while this one just proves that Alia Bhatt cannot sing.

Aise Na Mujhe Tum Dekho

The upcoming erotic thriller Wajah Tum Ho borrows heavily from the archives. The famous melody Aise Na Mujhe Tum Dekho from the film Darling Darling (1977) has been messed up completely by Baby Doll composers Meet Bros. Poor melody, unnecessary effects and inane lyrics are the additions to the track. The playful yet harmonious number is just another auto-tuned monstrosity now. I am sure that had the original composer of the song, Panchamda, been alive to hear this version, he would have fired the composers.

Pal Pal Dil Ke Pass

The track Pal Pal Dil Ke Pass from the film Blackmail (1973) still has a special place in our memories. The vocals of Kishore Kumar and the simple melody composed by Kalyanji Anandji, are a glorious combination. But when you hear this track from Sana Khan, Sharman Joshi and Gurmeet Choudhary starrer Wajah Tum Ho, you just cringe. The heavy-handed use of auto-tuning on the vocals of Arijit Singh and Tulsi Kumar, adds insult to injury. Arijit himself had expressed his displeasure at Abhijit Vaghani-the music composer for his treatment of the song. Need we say more.

Teri Fariyaad

One of the best ghazals from the 90s, Koi Fariyaad from the first instalment of Tum Bin was sung by the late Jagjit Singh. For the film's sequel, Ankit Tiwari brought back the song with an added track of female vocals. As a result, the song lacks soul. Though Rekha Bhardwaj tries her level best to save the song by bringing her own flavour, it just does not connect well with the audiences.

Mahi Ve

This one is an assault on both the eyes and ears.I heard the remake of the hit song Maahi Ve from Kaante (2002). Back then, Richa Sharma and Sukhwinder Singh touched my heart with their vocals and made us hear the track on loop. But the latest track from Wajah Tum Ho, just fails to impress us. What was the composer Gourav Roshin even thinking while composing the melody? Too much of technology coupled with out of place lyrics create a disaster. And whoever thought Zareen Khan will be a good replacement for Malaika Arora, needs to get a thorough medical evaluation.

This one was not in the list but i got remember this rape of beautiful song

Out of all of these, only Teri Fariyaad was decent (thanks to Rekha Bharadwaj).

Haven't disliked any ARIJIT songs.

I don't think Arijit needs auto tuning!!! I think because of remake, the younger gen comes to know of older songs.

I loved both old AND new versions of HAR KISI KO NAHI MILTA YAHAN PYAR ZINDAGI MAIN.

I actually love Amit Trivedi's recreation of the classic "Ae Zindagi Gale Laga Le". He's very talented and he played it just right. Also loved his revamped version of "Hungama Ho Gaya" from Queen. It's giving new life to a forgotten oldie, to a new generation which is a good thing.
I also like the new Maahi Ve. I loved and still listen to the 2002 original nowadays too.

The Teri Fariyad remake was also pleasing with the new treatment.

The originals are all still available for you to enjoy. Some people acting like someone recorded over the original recordings 🤪

What did they ruin 😆 Don't like don't listen. Old melodies are everywhere on the web you can listen to it anytime.
Also Arijit did complain about the over auto tuning done. Anyways Arijit does not need auto tuning .
Arijit is the best <3
