It will be good for Ranveer and Ranbir to do a KWK together. It will give them time to assess each other. And for people to assess them. Beside boosting Karan's KWK TRP, it will give them both a platform to meet at same level. In past when they met, they always had this unequal status in Bollywood. 2015 and 2016 has been a leveler of some sort. And timing is right. They are at a stage where each success will inch them towards the coveted superstar level. Both have promising upcoming movies, very loyal fan base and good amount of buzz around them. Karan should have thrown Varun in the mix. It would have made a full house.
Ranbir's edge is he has a fresh hit , he is coming out of promotion for successful movie, Ranbir's acting skills have never been in serious question and he is at point where he will now be asked to balance movies like Jaggo Jasoos with more commercial viable project . 100 crores on poor WOM is nothing to sneeze at. Producers must be hoping for such a miracle in their life. His breakup with DP/ Kathy does not have same bite anymore.
On negative side, his personal life and his own behavior has cost him great deal of female fans (who are ferocious when on your side. But it is hard to regain their trust) and he is not very popular with some males (his role don't exactly adhere to image of manly man). The trick will be for him to gain more fans without creating any controversy and not appear zombie on show. There are no real dearth of offers for Ranbir. He is insider, is proven star material, is friendly with his directors, his acting chops are meticulous. Like Shahid, he will survive. But if he is serious about movie career, he will need to stop digging hole in his own stardom. No "Mauke pe chauka" comments.
He has finally gained Karan (and his dubious guidance) and if Ranbir lets go of his fears and stubbornness, he will be propelled to superstardom. Some day I will write about star makers and importance of having someone like Karan in your corner. But the days of leisurely exploring Bollywood are over for Ranbir. His fans will have to accept this. Flops have given him much needed jolts and like he said it is time for him to pull up his socks, try new tricks. People will be watching to see if he can walk the walk after doing lot of talk.
Ranveer on other hand has a problem. His Befikre (even with Aditya association) is not exactly a morale booster and his relation with DP has taken nose dive (media pictures not withstanding. Their PR are so entangled at this point that it will be hard for them to uncouple without some real serious damage). Ranveer likes to speaks his mind - which sometime makes him look like a crass .His actions swing from wild to genuinely inspiring. And then there are few acts that must make his PR weep in their bed -out of sheer fear. I have to confess, Ranveer is kind of loose cannon. His PR will have heard time reeling him once he gains strides in Bollywood.
But Ranveer has this innate genuine capacity to surprise. Fans are banking on it. He works well when he is cornered. If he can let go of this need to entertain people and be himself, he will do much better. It is his need to stay in skin of some character or the other (mostly buffoon) that bothers everybody especially his potential fans. He is smart and survivor and is lambhi race ka ghodha.
Truth is he doesn't have much to gain or lose in this KWK round except he will get benefit of impressing Karan and perhaps get a chance to needle his self declared dushman-dost-dusra aadmi. But he will need to buckle up. Because if everything goes well this time around, his next round will be with Varun who is Karan's protg and a true equal strength opponent.
