Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has managed have a good first day at the box office with collections set to come in at around 13.25 crore nett as per early estimates. These collections are very good for pre Diwali and the film did open at a faster rate but the evenings did not show the regular improvement due to Diwali festivities. This trend could linger on for the next two days and collections are unlikely to show normal weekend trends. On a normal day the morning start would have translated into a 16 crore nett first day. The film has done very well at multiplexes across the country beating the figures of the Akshay Kumar starrers Housefull 3 and Rustom at most multiplexes in the big cities despite it being pre Diwali. The business in the B and C centres is less be it multiplexes or single screens but that is not really the target audience and if this audience comes from Monday onward the film will put up a huge number.

Shivaay is on the lower side with around 8.25 crore nett as per early estimates though taking pre Diwali into account its an average start. This film has been affected more by Diwali festivities as business in mass markets like UP, Gujarat, Rajasthan, CP Berar and CI is weak and these markets are where the best business of Shivaay will come. These markets are likely to get weaker over the next two days and then jump hugely on Monday. The film had a low start at multiplexes in big centres and remained at the same level through the day. The clash has dented its business in the big city multiplexes.
It is coincidence but the business is very similar to the Mohenjo Daro and Rustom clash with Ae Dil Hai Mushkil doing similar to Rustom on day one and Shivay similar to Mohenjo Daro. But as the business has come pre Diwali and bigger holidays to come both of the Diwali releases are in a better position as compared to their counterparts.
