One of the reasons why I have always liked Anushka is because she's darn real. I think at times that attitude of hers can get misunderstood in an industry where everyone is trying to be nice to each other on the face even if they can't stand the person. She's one of those who says what she means and means what she says. Even in this interview while talking about the party she doesn't even take a pause before going how people can judgemental and I found that darn funny! This is a bit OT but I have seen some folks her bash her with regards to her break up with Ranveer and talk about how he deserved better. If anyone has read what Ranveer has said about Anushka ever since he came in the industry or even during the phase where they probably weren't even talking to each other, they'll get a clue of highly he thinks of her. I think most people who have worked with her and have known her quite well have always talked about how principled she's as a person. Even Ranbir talks about that aspect of her personality in one of the BTS bits that we recently got of ADHM.

I'm not sure how actually close they are in a personal way but they do share enough of a comfort level to be able to say or do pretty much anything to each other, good, bad or ugly without putting up pretences. So I agree with you and give credit to RK particularly for being kind & friendly towards her even though she wasn't from his class (as horrible as that sounds to say) because the rich/popular kids usually tend to rub shoulders only with each other and yet she's never let on that he snubbed her or was depreciative at any point. I know this is basic decency type of stuff that most people shouldn't get any brownie points for but when you consider how hostile and exclusive BW can be...it becomes something to remark upon.

Apart from her middle class background and outsider status, Anushka also has the added baggage of her anxiety issues and a non-conformist attitude...so it really surprises me that she's stuck around because people who are disadvantaged via their class status tend to climb the ladder by 'faking it before making it' (i.e. being big people pleasers, learning the ways of high society, networking and subscribing to generic opinions that won't ruffle feathers)...an odd story with lots of ruts that say she shouldn't really be here.

@Bold - maybe she is here because of it. Because while she is a non-comformist she has never been intentionally ruffling feathers, in fact I am yet to hear a producer/actor/director/playback singer ever having had a problem with her in the sense we usually hear.. they all seem to like her very very much.

About RK and her I dunno if they r close friends or not.. in personal sense as u said, but she and him have videos going back to like 2012-3 or so where I see the same casual friendship and comfort.. ribbing each other.. hitting and pushing.. fighting etc.. and he is friends with her brother..
so maybe they r friends..

anyway bottom line about Anushka is despite all odds she has made it.., and strange is the fact that she made the journey almost look like that of an industry kid.., no scandals.. not zillion didn't make it stuff etc etc.. she managed to make it in this dog eat dog industry and make a success out of it..

How is Anu middle class if her dad was Army officer? The mannerisms of Army kids is a class apart !!

Karan has one of those personalities man where you either like him or you don't! 😆 I haven't till now come across someone stating I kind of like him. Opinions about him always range from one extreme to other. But he's also one of those people that you just can't put in a box and be like he's bitchy! I'm sure most people in this industry or in life in general have that side to them but they aren't perhaps vocal about it or fake it really well. He on the other hand is open about that aspect of his personality and I kind of like that! In the sense that he's at least not a hypocrite and acknowledges it. Karan also is darn close to a lot of people. Has been for ages now and I think that side of his personality doesn't get enough focus. He has been an amazing friend to quite a few but I guess when you're a host of a show like KWK then that side of your personality is bound to be overshadowed by the one that one gets to see on telly.

my fav part is when ranbir calls Anushka a village belle n she says what the f*&# lol

Anushka's Twitter profile caption is "don't let the b*stards grind u down" in Latin. I like how she keeps stays strong n keeps it real despite whatever ppl have thrown at her. Not jus professionally but she has handled her personal life well too.

plz let this movie be a hit for ranbir!!! *prays* lol

Middle-class only compared to these Bollywood rich kids n Bollywood royalty like the kapoors etc

Anu has said her mum used to check the right side of the menu for prices when they went out with ppl from Bollywood.

True that being a non-conformist can also be used to make it...stars like Kangana and Ranveer have built their entire images on it. My observation with Anu though, and I'm considering this in a PR kind of way, is that she hasn't really milked any of the 'stories' she could've and tried to gain notoriety for them. Instead she's been chugging her way through with work, which is not a very explosive strategy but I guess it works best for who she is. Definitely an underdog story and exactly what you said in bold never makes it seem like that. (Which is why an interview like this where Ranbir basically says 'she was so out of place' really drives her outsider/middle-class origin home.)

One time Hirani mentions 'She belongs here but she doesn't belong here' to describe her.. That I think says it

@Bold - exactly!! Most of the audience treat her/take her in the same vein they take an Alia if u see... talented but no struggle (no huge rags to riches... loitering begging around PHs/ facing casting couch, etc). I mean general comments.. it has never ever been her point to put it out and impress upon being the underdog.. which she IS! And as u correctly said I don't think she can do the other side of it.. to live up to notoriety and gain..
I remember once she said when she started modeling at 14-15 she made sure she topped her class.. because when someone tells her parents in the typical middle class condescending way to things related to glamour industry "oh ur daughter is modeling?" they would be able to tell "but she has also topped her class"
Maybe that is where she comes from..

And yah somehow despite what Ranbir said aboutt how she was so awkward and sticking out in those BW parties she has made it to the innermost circle of BW.. she is standing there with KJo sharing confidences up to a certain extent! And that says it..
