Why are Erotic Thrillers a Thing?

Why does Bollywood INSIST on merging erotica and suspense/thriller together?
Is there any basis as to why Bwood no longer produces plain horror/thriller genre films?

I understand that sex sells- but these movies don't generate amazing business anyway. Why not invest in better effects, cast, and story to make a quality thriller film, rather than getting random models and forcing facial expressions out of them in the midst of orgasm scenes?

BW can't make up to the mark thrillers.

The cheap thrills of soft po*n sell a movie though. 😆

Dunno, maybe the thrill story is just a bahana for making an erotic movie?

And they end up making the scenes look vulgar rather than adult. Some of these thrillers do have a decent story but those scenes make the entire movie look cheap and vulgar.

Hunterrr is definitely not an erotic thriller.

It's just a movie about sex and sexual encounters, there's no horror element to it.

I'm talking about all these other ones- Raaz 1,2,3,4,5,6 etcetc, Jism 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 10 50, Khamoshiya, 1920 Evil Returns etcetc.

Hate Story 3- fair enough (though again, I wouldn't term it as a thriller/horror film).

Ya, lack of story or plot too.. you have to pass time for 1 and half hours atleast.. so, put in some scenes to waste time. Lack of a good story for 2 hours...

But I just wonder who goes to watch such movies, as if hyphenating an erotic movie with "thrill" or, thriller movie with erotic will make the movies any better

the charm of raaz type of movies is fading definitely but still they are the only movies for horror lovers like me . Since long time horror in India always has erotica ( ramsay brothers were pioneers ). Bhoot was the only exception I think.

ps- counjuring 2 did great business in India , so definitely people in India crave horror movies

I think the first Raaz as a well-made thriller erotica, atleast by BW standards...but it all went downhill from there..

I personally think the genre has potential but BW filmmakers dont know how to handle the genre.
