So this forums and specifically fandoms of RANBIR & RANVEER claims that having a known directors films make you a bigger star.
Okay. What is simple definition of 'known or a big director'???

I didn't know stardom and box office is determined by number critics praises or awards they receive. đ We are discussing stardom here. Not actor's preferences of proving their ability and gaining accolades.
Let's analyse the opening of the films and consistency which the trades analysts group at Indicine has discussed about. Now we are keeping in mind that we're discussing star power, consistency and big opening at BO despite negative buzz, lack of appealing cast, lack of chartbusters and no-industry supports

Now take into account the last 3 films of these 4 stars above. As we are clearly discussing opening days figures and star power NOW. Not 2013 or 2014.
Total nett gross is depending on WOM. Only first day & weekend relies on star power.
Few notes - Varun hasn't got a Bhansali, Bhardwaj, Adi C or Hirani film. But he works with newcomers like Shashank and delivers hits. He works with Remo who's films are known to receive poor reviews. He works with Sriram Raghavan, critically acclaimed but a flop director until Badlapur happened.
Varun is mocked for playing same roles. Rom-Coms are in one place and Masala films are other. Saying HSKD is same as MTH or Dishoom is like saying YJHD is same as Besharam or Band Baaja Baraat is same as Gunday. He has been praised for Badlapur and first A rated film to cross 50cr. Saying his films work due to chartbusters. Dishoom had no hit music or famous heroine like Deepika. Saying if ABCD 2 worked coz it was a sequel. Well I recall this forums thrashed it by saying it will be huge flop (especially Guess.Who - who's been ranting how Varun will only last 3 films since MTH days). If all sequels were guaranteed success - HOW DID THESE FOLLOWING SEQUELS FAIL TO DELIVER? Houseful 3, Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 (who'd know this better than Sunny paji fan himself - guess.who), Kya Kool Hai Hum 3, Murder 3, OUATMD etc...
Saying films like YJHD & Bajirao collected massive total amount - Well it wasn't star power, was it?
Openings of YJHD or Besharam were like 20cr - Duh - Give Varun Judwaa 2 or BKD on Gandhi Jayant or Post-IPL weekend, you'll get better collections

Badrinath Ki Dulhania - I bet this will be the biggest opener for the leads
