Even a shitty film like Veer opened to 6.85 crs in 2010 and Salman wasnt even this big then . Lets not compare Khans to actresses

A film is crap or not isn't determined by first day collections unless it's carrying negative reports.

Akira being low buzz film with no support from industry have over 4.5cr collections is a huge thing. Sonakshi isn't on top her game. She's not twitter celebs fav. Film had not musical advantage. No known face besides sonakshi. The first day collections are huge in my perception. Sonakshi has proved a lot. She came back after 19 months. Screen count doesn't mean a thing.

Honestly , we don't have a powerful heroine in BW. Sri and Madhuri were the highest point of female domination.
Now a days, actresses don't have it in them to pull a movie . Some exceptions are there, but pay reflects their popularity and BO pull.

The opening of Akira has again proved how female centric films struggle for a start at the box office. Only two films Mary Kom (Priyanka Chopra) and Heroine (Kareena Kapoor) have crossed the 5 crore nett mark. Heroine was 2012 and Mary Kom 2014 but with higher ticket rates the numbers of these films are not being reached.

If in the list below there were films which were taking in 12 or 15 crore nett on day one, there would not be this talk of disparity. If the numbers below change, the pay disparity will also change.

Some of these films eventually put up decent lifetime numbers but that will not change the disparity in pay, it will be the opening day numbers. There is no film going close to 10 crore nett (taking real Mary Kom value) and 10 crore today is not really a good start unless its under 1500 screens. If the opening day numbers start coming in double digits then the pay cheques can also be double digits but until then its going to be a 5-6 crore cheque on a good case for actresses in the Hindi film industry.

1. Mary Kom - 8,32,00,000 (1900 screens)

2. Heroine - 6,82,00,000 (2000 screens)

3. Akira - 4,75,00,000 apprx (2000 screens)

4. Neerja - 4,62,00,000 (1000 screens)

5. Jai Gangaajal - 4,48,00,000 (2500 screens)

6. Jazbaa - 3,94,00,000 (1650 screens)

7. Mardaani - 3,44,00,000 (1250 screens)

8. NH 10 - 3,26,00,000 (1000 screens)

9. No One Killed Jessca - 3,22,00,000 (950 screens)

10. Highway - 3,21,00,000 (750 screens)

articles like these are the reason actresses are often discredited, yet A list actors continue to take them in their movies...this article insists that opening day matters and lifetime numbers are not counted, and to discredit actresses further they look only at solo films and put a list with different movies (belonging to different genres) the numbers of say No One Killed Jessica will obviously not be better than a Mary Kom... actors like ranveer singh, arjun kapoor, aditya roy kapoor can they have a great opening number on a solo film with no A list female lead and will their numbers be compiled on a list like this...

whats the use of a decent opening day if the movie ends up being a flop? ranbir kapoor's last few movies opened at 5 crores (bombay velvet) and 10 crores (tamasha) with a deepika... why is he getting 20 crores? shouldn't his pay be reduced to 10 crores? if opening day numbers matters then all those who get paid 40 crores should have movies that collect 40 crores on opening day but many don't...

This whole article does not make sense
They have deliberately have not included Tanu Weds Mannu Returns.
See , mostly women centric films are for multiplex audiences .Those films never opens big .
The moment a film with Female protagonist in main role is massy , it worked TWMR proved that .

Now if someone says, TWMR was not a women centric film , may be to certain extent , but people definitely went to watch the film for a woman .

One thing I don't understand is why the films with equally important female and male leads are automatically handed to the male actor, while female actors are judged on the basis of "solo" films?

THIS. I think barring Khans, no actor can say that he can give hits without a popular heroine. The opening is due to BOTH the actor and actresses.

And the list given, most of the female centric films have a completely unknown "hero" ... not even a B or C lister.

Yet we regularly have the second rung of heroes being paid more than A list heroines.

Its been happening...and will continue sadly...entire BWood promotes male chauvinism..I dont even know why...reading stuff like even some of the top actresses dont get proper accomodation/vanity vans as the male leads...baffles me
Would a director come forward and say he let down an actress with his half baked script?
The young lot...infact everyone apart from the Khans should be paid less than the actresses...atleast equal pay is what should be practised

At the end it is Box Office only, talent doesn't matter if your film is not earning at Box Office... Pay scale of all those Stars who are best at acting & can't get Box Office succcess are less...

Film Hit Karwao, u can demand More, don't blame audience, who watches when.

Seeta aur Geeta is huge blockbuster, Jai Santoshi Ma is ATBB, Mother is Iconic ATBB/ATG & Oscar entry film, when in past those female stars can create phenomenal box office with their hardwork, why can't now female stars do it?

A Female Centric film gets so much help, critics applaud it even without seeing, highest ratings, essays on how good acting & subject of the films is, while in reality, same film has empty theatres.

Industry won't be male chauvinist if Females can score more than males. Prove it & then tell if anyone gives u less money, they will give u more than males if u give more profit to them.
