They dont make good money from good/hit films either and thats the point. They get just 10% of profit and dont have rights to the movie. So an Eros might release BB but majority of the profits and rights will remain with SKP. I am sure that was the case with BM. Eros last year would have made good money only from TWMR.

So this makes more sense..they basically have too much money and hardly ever make any money in return since they negotiate horrible deals with people like Farhan, SLB, and Ashutosh.
Always wondered why the studios don't cultivate new talent..have in house directors/actors with 3 film deals like YRF, Dharma. This explains with SidRK said they were slowing down to focus on home-grown films. Fitoor, Dangal are those...but they really let the budget and shooting get out of hand with endless delays. It was terrible planning for films like JJ, Fitoor.

Great read...

What happens when these studios shutdown and the traditional PH who are mooching them have to release these movies themselves will be very interesting ...

Cannot believe bangistan was bought for 35 crores 😲

The article has been quite revealing actually... wondering why professionally managed organizations are settling for a raw deal... only explanation is a scam of sorts...

Some directors who are giving flop after flop continue to get Stars & thereby production houses ... This mystery remains unsolved.

Corporates to directors " bring Stars thats it, we will fund your project". This is the reason they are closing one by one.

Mera driver 15K per month lekar bhi bahut khush rahta hai lekin ek Star ke driver ko producer ko 5K per day denaa padta hai.

Stars bechare itne kadke rahte hain crores lene ke baad bhi ki unke staff ko daily wages producers ko dene padte hain.

"... Phantom Films was shopping around Bombay Velvet at a price of Rs 55 crore. Fox Star Studios picked the film at Rs 95 crore and delivered one of the biggest flops in recent years. How did Rs 55 crore reach Rs 95 crore? Take a guess. ..."

Another one, a film with Ayushman Khurana as the lead was made with a budget of 35 crores by Reliance, another with 10 Crore budget from Chopra banner. ... "

Above two examples makes one wonder, should CEOs be blamed only for the lack of cinematic knowledge or more? Is it like the cause of recession few years ago where Banks went bankrupt, but not the bankers? Is there any property recently acquired by SRKapoor?

Great read. It explains so much that wasn't making sense in the last couple of years, especially the super-inflated budgets and acting salaries. I was always mystified by how Ranbir was being paid 32 cr for Bombay Velvet, 38 cr for Tamasha and now how Hrithik was being paid 50 cr for Mohenjo Daro... the common thread is UTV/Fox Star. It seems clear that a lot of these in-house production houses such as Excel/Dharma/YRF used these corporates and their naiveness to profit off of them (the Excel/Junglee one especially). Can't say I feel bad for the corporates though, they must really have no idea what they are funding if they backed movies like Bangistan and Besharam (which was produced by Reliance I believe). It also seems like the bidding wars strategy used in real estate markets worked here too. The reason behind all of this seems to be lack of experience in the CEOs of these corporates - how is someone with a hospitality management background supposed to run a film production company? 😕 I hope Eros isn't stuck too, it would really be a shame.
