2016 surprises so far

What things surprised you in 2016 so far?

Here is my list:
1. Sonam managed to score a solo hit film and give a decent performance.
2. Sultan turned out to be decent. Not on the level of BB but not as bad as i thought it would be from the promos
3. Mohenjo Daro turned out to be a dud when I expected it to be the next JA.
4. Ranbir-Ash didnt make me cringe in the teaser of ADHM.
5. Fitoor bombing so badly.

Sonam in Neerja was a pleasant surprise

Also i thought Baaghi would flop

Another surprise was Ki and Ka's succes

I thought Kapoor and Sons would flop and Fawad would be over in BW.

Expected Fan to do better. The way it trended was unnerving.

But the biggest surprise was BW dumped superstar starkid HR and preferred to support Kangana.

Kapoor & Sons being such a major success. I knew it'd be a good film because of Shakun but didn't think it'd do so well.

- Fitoor turning out to be poor. I had so much expectations, and it has such a strong premise (one of the finest works of English fiction in Dickens' Great Expecations)
The trailers were great but that was it. Fitoor is nothing like what the trailers were advertising it to be.
It should have been in the race for the movie of the year at the year's end but instead they ending up ruining the very essence of the story and thus making a mess of a film which is not sure what its trying to be.

- Aligarh. I didn't expect it to handle its material well. But it did a good job backed by the performance of the year so far by Manoj Bajpayee. The best so far of the year behind Raman Raghav 2.0.


- We are into September and there is not even one movie which you can say was truly incredible. The event releases this year have been pure crap as well. (I though this year was going to the best since 2012).

Lets see what the second half brings. I am sure Dangal at the very least will be good.
Kahaani 2, Rock, A Death in the Gunj are the others I am looking forward to. They need to good otherwise 2016 would be another major disappointment after 2015.
