Rustom had a good first weekend of 50 crore nett apprx. In real value the business is actually better than it looks as it clashed with Mohenjo Daro and the Saturday and Sunday business of the film would have been higher in the big multiplexes if it had more screens. Sometimes this is not an issue as films don't get such high occupancy even with clash but here the film has gone to 80% with screenings at peak time going housefull. More screens would have meant more shows at peal periods which would mean higher collections. On a solo release this film would have been the highest Akshay Kumar opening weekend as even on worst case you can add 5 crore though it would probably be more like 8-10 crore nett. The film is a HIT and though mass regions are less than the big cities they have still performed much better than Airlift. Below is the daily weekend business of Rustom.

The best business has come in Mumbai circuit at around 17.50 crore nett, Delhi UP is around 9.50 crore nett and East Punjab is 5.50 crore nett. It is a record opener for Akshay Kumar in Mysore and West Bengal with 2.75 crore nett and 2 crore nett respectively. The circuit where the collections are a little less is Nizam / Andhra and that may be because Mohenjo Daro has fared better there and had a wider release. The film will have a huge Monday and it will be among the biggest ever due to the Independence Day. It remains to be seen if its among the top five Monday's of all time.

Rustom had the fourth highest worldwide opening this year with around 90 crore GBOC worldwide. Mohenjo Daro was in seventh place with 59 crore giving Rustom a huge lead of 31 crore. Sultan still stands tall with 210 crore and the only film to hit 200 crore worldwide in the first weekend. Fan is the other film which has crossed 100 crore worldwide in the first weekend. The weekend is the second highest for Akshay Kumar with Housefull 3 leading while for Hrithik Roshan it is fourth after Bang Bang, Krrish 3 and Agneepath. Bang Bang being a 100 crore plus worldwide weekend at 122 crore. The top worldwide grossers for the opening weekend in 2016 are as follows.

Rustom recorded the sixth highest Monday of all time and the highest Monday of 2016. Below are the top ten first Monday collections of all time.

1. Krrish 3 - 29.64 crore (Holiday)

2. Bajrangi Bhaijaan - 26.78 crore (Holiday)

3. PK - 21.15 crore (Enhanced Ticket Rates)

4. Dhoom 3 - 19.87 crore (Enhanced Ticket Rates)

5. Ek Tha Tiger - 18.96 crore (Holiday)

The first six films are all where either the Monday has landed on a big holiday or ticket rates at multiplexes have been kept on weekend rates as there is a holiday period. This applies to PK and Dhoom 3. Krrish 3 leads with a phenomenal near 30 crore nett total on Monday which will be very tough to beat. Sultan at 15.52 crore nett has the highest figure when its a normal Monday. This is almost 50% lower than the record which shows how tough a Monday is at real value even for a big blockbuster.

The Monday number of Rustom is higher than the opening day of any Akshay Kumar starrer and this shows how big of a collections it is if we compare with other Akshay Kumar starrers. It is probaly the biggest achievement of an Akshay Kumar starrer in terms of box office since the days of Rowdy Rathore. On a sidenote the collections of Mohenjo Daro also compare well on Monday as that film is also in 17th place for the highest first Mondays despite not doing well.
