Who could have looked it...well...I can see a few doing that too but yeah its tough to match her looks!

I haven't read the novel but heard Paro was in her teens, so everybody in that movie were too old for their parts...

And Paro and Chandramukhi dancing together that's not in the novel, right? I think that never would've happened in those days

No, actually I think casting of that movie was perfect. Don't see anyone else playing Paro.

Was Paro really supposed to be that beautiful? I havent read the novel so I dont know..

I always thought chandramukhi was meant to be the more beautiful/sexy one out of the two while paro was the girl-next-door type.

Paro was a village belle but she was truly beautiful..A person whose absence can make you as self-destructive as Devdas - read in soo many write ups as an analogies . If you see the history, the most beautiful women only played Parvati. Starting from Suchitra Sen to Ash..And both of them had a common thing that's beauty with attitude and highhandedness. Parvati was not a all forgiving lady even in the novel. She has that pride.

Chandramukhi was the tawaif. Her beauty was on another level.

From what I remember, Paro was a bubble teenage character with curly hairs. Chandramukhi was a sleazy and graceful character.

Madhuri was fine where she was. Let's not forget that Chandramukhi was a dancer too, and Madhuri did justice to the role, given her training in Kathak.

Namrata. She was still a stunner, especially in Pukar. And if Bhansali made it a few years earlier, def Karisma or Urmila. Something about Urmila's face is so classic. I feel she is still so underrated in BW with films with EHT, Bhoot, Pinjar, etc.

^^ Bang on!!! I don't find Urmoo (lol) good-looking but she had THE most fabulous figure & is a thoroughly under-rated actress!!! I miss her so much esp after I watched Kaun, EHT & Pinjar year day!!! That one scene where she is frantically rubbing off her new name on her wrist makes me tear up. Pls come back, Urmoo.

@MEB: I know right. Loved her in Rangeela and Maast. She is such a stunner and performer. Even in Judaai she was so good. I lvoed ehr dialouge delivery in Janam Samaj karo. Like everyone used to be OTT in the 90s and she had a nice restrain in her voice.
