Feminism means giving women equal power and choice to do what they will with their lives, careers, and bodies.
If a woman chooses her career, it is a choice we must respect, even if it means aborting a child. If a woman chooses to be a housewife or start a family, it is a choice we must respect, even if it means giving up a promising career.

A woman should not be forced by her spouse or societal pressure to choose one or the other. She should do it out of her own volition and know that she will receive support for her decisions.

I understand why Aarfa can be problematic. India has a history of forcing women to choose family over career. Women who make family sacrifices for career are frowned upon, while men who do the same are lauded. There is strong social pressure to avoid abortion. So it is disappointing to see a woman who changes and sacrifices so easily for the sake of a man who does not do the same for her. It was her choice though. In the end it is a fiction that represents something real in India. There are plenty of other movies to show career women in a positive light.

What the feminist movement needs is not criticizing women for their choices but giving men the choice to choose family over career. It is about time it became acceptable for men to become child rearers, nurturing house husbands and homemakers instead of career. One of the biggest challenge career women face is that they have the burden of career and family because men who share the domestic burden are perceived as whipped or unmanly. Perceptions are changing, but a long way to go.

+1, especially the last part.

Although in the movie, Aarfa is not forced, she willingly chooses family over career and when she saw Sultan prioritizing career over family and the consequences it brings , she leaves him. So she always had the power, and was not forced.
So blaming the character of Aarfa is quite over -analysing on the part of the article writer.

I don't know anything about aarfa except it's Anushka's name in her latest film.
Isn't sultan a fictional movie?

Why are they writing essays on non existing person?

Aarfa told Sultan:

I have a goal in life. My fathers dream is to win the gold medal. I have to live up to that dream. AND I want a.life partner whom I can LOOK UP TO and FEEL inspired BY. What are you? What is your worth?

^^ There Aarfa clearly said she wants someone she can look up to. When sultan became a succesful wrestler, he became the person she was able to look up to for the rest of her life and THATs why she gave up on her dream to win the gold medal. SULTAN was now capable of fulfilling her dream, for her.

She gave up not because she was a loser but because she had all that she wanted. Sultan gave up everything to become a wrestler for Aarfa. To give HER RESPECT. To become the life partner she can feel proud of. That was his sacrifice for her.

This story was pure love. This story is an example of selfless love.

Aarfa gave up the dream because sultan was very eager for the honeymoon and did not think about aarfa career. Aarfa also made the mistake of not doing family planning. Hence Aarfa was pregnant

She could have discussed with the raging bull/saandh to do planning till he olympics. She did not and bull acted.

Now at that point this feminist chose to do parvarish her child. its her will..there was nothing said by her bulbul

Feminism means her choice...she chose kid over gold. Fine

Difficulty would arise if she were to say that ok raging bull and i did not plan and now i m pregnant. I want to abort now and this is my decision. I chose medal over child.

THEN WHAT?

That was not the case in movie..however that would have split audience...
