Jethmalani has built his career on dirty politics but in this case, in his favor, there were no real secrets.

Kawas Nanavati, a decorated Navy Commander surrendered himself to the authorities immediately after shooting Prem Ahuja, his wife's paramour.
His lawyer Karl Khandalawala argued "crime of passion" & got him acquitted, but the case went to the High court & he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
3 years later an imprisoned Sindhi trader by the name of Bhai Pratap sent a mercy petition to Vijaya Laxmi Pandit, the then Governor of Bombay.
Rajani Patel, the then defense lawyer used this as a carrot & approached Jethmalani who was the Ahuja's lawyer & a distant relative to intervene. Jethmalani did his bit by convincing Mamie Ahuja, Prem Ahuja's sister to give a full pardon.
Both men were pardoned & set free on the same day.
Diplomatic expediency at it's best


Reginald Pierce was the only man on the Jury who refused to be swayed by emotion & steadfastly insisted that "Nanavati did it".
In a recent interview he said "I knew I was condemning him but rightfully. I think he was an honourable murderer, but a murderer all the same."


This case made it to the history books for being the last Jury trial to be held in India.

I hope Rustom manages to tell it as it is without fictionalizing it to the extent of Neerja.

Yes, the whole focus is on her, but not because she gave up her life. The focus is on her because the poor girl died. Simple as that.
Sunshine Vesuwala & Sherene Pavan, Massey, Meherji Kharas & many others are never mentioned.

Neerja was shot in the hip but was conscious when Sunshine & Dilip Bidichandani pushed her down the emergency exit first before leaving the aircraft.

But that's all in the past & nothing to do with the current topic.
