Yes, Sridevi was 50 when EV released and she got critical acclaim and BO success for that film.
Kajol's Dilwale was a huge Worldwide grosser and was declared a semi hit in India.
So Ash didnt make any records yet being a 40+ actress.

And yes, Juhi, Raveena, Karishma all these actresses shd get more leading roles opposite the aging superstars.

1. I haven't seen Sarbjit yet but what's up with all this "carried the film on her shoulders" rhetoric? yes she has a significant role in the film, and moreso in the promotion. But saying she carried it on her shoulders is hugely disrespectful to Randeep Hooda.
2. Sonam Kapoor - again, she didn't carry Neerja on her shoulders. As a viewer the biggest impact on me was Shabana Azmi - she made me cry my eyes out 😭 - she added that extra level of emotion needed to ground the film. Don't get me wrong, Sonam acted very well in the film, it was by far her best performance and she deserves a tonne of praise, but she didn't carry the film "on her shoulders". The film was very well made. The director did an very good job, the screen play was excellent. Background score and cinematography were top notch. Supporting cast (especially that hot terrorist dude) were really good. Without these elements the film would not have been what it is today.

3. I am ALL FOR 40+ divas to be given their due respect. Madhuri, Sridevi, Rekha, Juhi, Kajol, Karisma, Aishwarya, Preity, Manisha, Urmila.

4. Sonali though?? 😆😆 NO!!

Agreed. I think in a way all of these actresses are paving the way for future generations. It was much harder to survive in BW in the 90s and 80s. And up until recently the notion was that married women weren't appealing enough. Then it was the age factor. It's nice that not only Aish but all of them are breaking stereotypes. It's a group effort. One person can't change the whole stigma or situation. But a whole group can. It affirms over and over than actresses over 40 can be beautiful, loved by audiences, still in demand, and successful.
Despite, Aish's flops. I think it speaks on her legacy and name that she is still considered by top directors for big & small budget films with meaty roles. She went from all that fat shamming and constant criticism of being a no one any more to someone that proved her detractors wrong. Kareena is the same--people kept pulling her down and she rebounded back with KK and UP.

I agree with the idea of 40+ heroines as leads in alternative cinema. These need not have to be just documentaries or preachy types. Something like 70s new wave films, where there was subtle romance (not flashy) between ordinary people with melodious songs. That market has been left dry for so long.

What about the 40 or 50 + actors still bringing fans in when no other men did it at their age 😉😉
