From the past few days, Udta Punjab has made headlines for all the wrong reasons. The film, which is about the drug abuse that transpires in Punjab, has run into a roadblock with the Central Board of Film Certification. The film had applied for certification as any movie does before releasing and initially the board had suggested 40 cuts to receive an A certificate. The makers took their film to the revising committee, but it seems that this has backfired as now the CBFC has ordered 89 cuts along with the word Punjab to be dropped from the title.

This hasn't gone down well with the makers of the film and other film-makers too. And so, in a last ditch effort the producer of Udta Punjab - Anurag Kashyap has now urged our Prime Minister Narendra Modi to look into the matter. But his tweet to the PM was rather intriguing. He wrote, "@narendramodi UDTA Punjab"

We revealed to you EXCLUSIVELY how the makers may delay the film to release the movie with minimum cuts. If you remember, Anurag Kashyap had said that even a single cut would take away the essence of the film. And after the protests and the 89 suggested cuts, Anurag ranted on twitter as he said, "There is no film more honest than UDTA PUNJAB .. And any person or party opposing it is actually GUILTY of promoting drugs"

Anurag Kashyap @anuragkashyap72

@narendramodi UDTA Punjab

Anurag Kashyap @anuragkashyap72

I request Congress, AAP and other political parties to stay out of my battle. It's my Rights vs the Censorship. I speak only on my behalf

Anurag Kashyap @anuragkashyap72

It's my fight Vs a dictatorial man sitting there operating like an oligarch in his constituency of censor board, that's my North Korea

Censor issue cannot be changed by one person (director's) cry. Whole industry has to come come together, demanding the government to have an uniform and transparent system in censoring and certification. If no film is shown for a week in India, government will automatically bend.

It is not Modi's job. He does not seem competitive enough for the job either. We don't even know his movie taste. Coming to that, we don't know the taste of most of the politicians. Earlier it was Advani, now Kejriwal. (Rahul has attended some premiers. But I have not heard him speaking about it).
Who else?

He is prime minister of our country but It doesn't mean you can ask him to interfere in every issue there is something like protocol ...
Its the issue of a film the whole industry should come over this what's the need of involving pm into a such case ...

Seek help in logical way ...

What's the need of involving political parties for a censorship of a film

Isn't there a minister for communications? Why not approach him? calling upon a PM to intervene over a movie seems immature and attention seeking...

If the issue is so vital to the survival of the film industry? why not get the industry folks to unite and call for a strike?

A Prime Minister can't concern himself with every film's censor issues
But it would be nice if Pradhan Sevak ji takes some focus away from the economic issues and sloganeering to start addressing the socio-cultural issues of the country

Pahlaj Nilhalni is a BJP appointee.
It's obvious that Udta Punjab is being censored because the Akali -BJP coalition does'nt want the world to know how they have destroyed Punjab.
Somewhere I hope Badal (the Nelson Mandela of Punjab as per Modi) ends up the same way as some other CM's of Punjab have ended.
