I was reading her filmography and almost 80% of her films are flops barring few films like Hum dil de chuke sanam, Devdas, Dhoom2 and Jodha Akbar, her films have been big duds and she has mostly delivered with Big heroes like Salman, Sharukh and Hrithik.

Her acting is unbearable at times, watching Jaazba was the pathetic mistake i had made, and then even in films like Dhoom and Devdas, she is so over the top and tries so hard.

She has had more successful films than most actors. You have only listed four of them. What about Taal, Jeans, Kandukondain Kandukondain, Mohabbatein, Josh, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Chokher Bali, Khakee, Bride and Prejudice, Guru, Sarkar Raj, Raavanan, Endhiran (Robot)? Plus many critically acclaimed films like Raincoat, Guzaarish, Iruvar, Provoked, too.

Another thing is, she is stunning.. she could have done many a film where she is just a flowerpot, like most top actresses do, but in 95% of the movies she has done, she has had substantial or meaty roles and not the 4-songs, 5-scenes type of roles.

Her acting has indeed been off the mark sometimes. But then she has delivered really good performances often too. She has done good movies across different industries.. hence she has gained pan-Indian and international fame. She is stunningly beautiful and a brilliant dancer.. and I am sure all that helps too.

Aishwarya is gorgeous, well spoken and she created quite a sensation in HW back in the day was on Oprah (multiple times before marriage, with Abhi), Letterman and had offers from Brad Pitt. Her wedding to Abhi was news on CNN USA. I don't remember any Indian actor/actress with that level of fame, not even the Khans.

Ash does have good movies like Raincoat, Choker Bali, Kandukondein Kandukondein (Sense and Sensibility in Tamil with Tabu) that many have never seen. She had some hangups about what she would do unlike PC who just does not and fits in better. PC has blended into America and no longer is the BW actress, she is now an Indian actress working in HW, no longer 'exotic'. But Ash was and always will be 'the most beautiful woman in the world' as introduced by Oprah to America and who is the BW actress who did a few HW movies. She never really fit in America, not like PC. but she was the first Indian actress when I was a kid who created a sensation that I can remember on a global scale.

Its not just her beauty...There are many other things which go far beyond just the superficial beauty...The way she conducts herself with grace...The way she doesn't come across as aggressive but at the same time as someone with a mind of her own...She is like an ideal girl/woman for many...More importantly, she kept herself always relevant...even when she didn't have a movie released for years, she still was there everywhere and having the media talk about her...She is one wholesome package of beauty with brains!

There's a similar topic almost every month in this forum. 😆. People have already answered your question but in addition to that, there's a certain grace and charm about her which has appealed to people across all age groups. Plus she has had terrific screen presence in all her movies, pretty difficult to ignore her when she is in the frame. Also, she has been quite successful in maintaining the same aura with which she entered the field. Even after her marriage.
