Sultan Teaser heavily inspired from Dangal's Geeta Phogat story

Two of the most awaited films of 2016 - Sultan and Dangal - are both based on the story of wrestlers. While Dangal is a real-life story of Mahavir Singh Phogat (amateur wrestler and senior Olympics coach), the story of Sultan is completely fictional.

But the newly released teaser of Sultan seems to be heavily inspired (would be an understatement) from a video of Geeta Phogat's story - which was released more than a year ago in January 2015.

Geeta Phogat is Mahivir Singh Phogat's first daughter and her character will be played by Fatima Sana Shaikh in Dangal.

Watch the two videos below and check out the similarities for yourself. Everything from the voice over, pull-ups of Anushka Sharma, her taking on a male wrestler, then fighting a female wrestler and the message of women empowerment - every bit of it has been included in the second teaser of Sultan.

so basically salman is playing aamir's son in law 🤣...

in future they could make a mahasangam of these two films and bring salman aamir together 😆

I think sultan is gonna be more of a full on Bollywood film n salman has said it's essentially a love story while Dangal will prob be more realistic is a story of a father n his daughters. Hopefully both will different enuff

Dangal is turning out to be a major test for Aamir both cinematically and outside cinema. We have to see how he handles this extremely tough situation.

Good teaser. Anushka is terrific. I didn't identify the voice over as Salman's first. And that's a good thing though it does falter in places.

As for the Dangal comparison; I don't think the two movies will be anything similar. Dangal is essentially a biopic of three people (wrestlers).

Meanwhile Sultan will be the typical BW movie that happens to feature two wrestlers.

The blatant copy of the ad can be put down to the incredible lack of storytelling prowess of the director. The thing I don't get is why nobody walked up to him and said that this is going too far. You can surely think and come up with something at-least a little different.
