Late filmmaker Ravi Chopra's son Abhay's directorial debut, a modernday adaptation of grand uncle Yash Chopra's 1969 murder mystery, Ittefaq, will see Sidharth Malhotra step into the shoes of Rajesh Khanna while Sonakshi Sinha will recreate Nanda 46 years since the original's release.

Now, Mirror has learnt that shooting for the film is set to kick off in the first week of February. "The script and dates have finally been locked and the film will be shot in a start-to-finish, 60-day schedule in India as well as international locations," reveals a source close to the development.

Ittefaq was the remake of the British film, Signpost to Murder (1964), featuring Joanne Woodward.

It revolved around an artist who is arrested for the murder of his wife whom he had thrown off in a moment of frustrated rage when she distracts him from his painting and stormed out of the house.

While the original had no songs and most of the action happened in the course of one night, the new version will feature songs and a new climax

Sonakshi Sinha is quite excited about playing a grey character in her next, 'Ittefaq'. The film, a modern-day remake of the Rajesh Khanna- Nanda 1969 whodunit hit of the same name, will see her teaming up with Sidharth Malhotra.
The actress says, "The script has been modernised, and my part has shades of grey. It's not entirely like Nanda's. This is the first time I will be playing such a character and I'm excited about that. It's the novelty of the part that drew me to it."

Sonakshi will get into prep mode in a matter of days, since the film is expected to roll in February. "Sidharth is a little occupied with some professional commitments, and we'll start as soon as he gets done. I've known him socially, but this is the first time we're working together," she signs off.
