It's no secret now that Shah Rukh Khan is going through a career low, atleast as far as the domestic box office collections of his films are concerned. He's still bigger than most, but not quite upto the very high standards that he had consistently maintained for the first 20 years of his career.
Dilwale', which was touted as the box office favourite last Christmas, failed to match the glorious run of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Bajirao Mastani'. Now, FAN isn't performing upto expectations either.
It's at this time that a section of the industry, mostly Shah Rukh Khan supporters, who believe Aditya Chopra should let go of the Eid date and give it to the man who featured in some of his biggest blockbusters like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge', Mohabbatein' and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi'. Shah Rukh was also the lead star in every Yash Chopra directed film since Darr in 1993.
While it cannot be denied that Adi is one of the most talented directors in the industry, it's Shah Rukh's charisma that made DDLJ the iconic film that it has now become. With a lesser actor, the impact of a film like DDLJ would have been far less. Some believe, SRK's contribution to the YRF banner is huge and it's his films that have made the banner what it is today.
For the trade, the choice is unanimous. They all want Sultan'. But a section of the industry believe Aditya Chopra owes a lot to Shah Rukh and the best way to repay would be by pushing Sultan' to a later date. More so since it was Raees' that was first announced for Eid
