Fan brings back the powerhouse known as SRK!

What makes a fan a true fan? Is it the dedication to collect autographs, is it to chase a star wildly and follow their lifestyle or is it something much more than that? Maneesh Sharma's latest venture with King Khan answers all these questions and much more! Shah Rukh Khan has been branded as an entertainer who follows the commercial formula and off late his films haven't had the spark one would expect from the brand SRK. Yes, he has given many wonderful films such as Kal Ho Naa Ho, Swades, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and all but that was in the past. Does Fan bring back the performer in SRK? Yes indeed!

Now, I'm sure the SRKians would be happy to hear this and Sallu Bhai's fans may be disappointed but the truth must be told. Fan is not your usual SRK film! SRK has opted for what I must say is one of the most off beat films yet. So has the film lived up to the hype and expectations? Happy to say that SRK has given life and soul into this film. This is not your conventional fan story either as it deals with what happens when a die hard fan literally becomes a psychopath and gets his heart broken by his idol! It is perhaps an eye opener for all types of fans. I feel this story would work universally! Do not be surprised if Vijay, Ajith, or Suriya buy the rights to remake this in Kollywood! It is also a pleasant surprise to find out that the movie does not contain any songs and in fact does not even have a heroine.

So what is the USP of this film? It is, ultimately, the theme and the performance. SRK has done a brilliant job in enacting two roles with very different personalities. It is hard to beleive that Shahrukh has performed Gaurav Chandna's role as it is probably one of his most different yet daring performances. King Khan makes you believe that he is no less than a real fan of an idol and his performance will surely have the critics and even his haters surprised at his acting capabilities. SRK also does an equally good job of playing the role of Superstar Aryan Khanna. Aryan Khanna is the side of SRK you would have never seen. SRK's acting skills are sharp as Aryan Khanna and make you feel that Aryan Khanna might be his real life personality. Aryan Khanna is your cold and harsh superstar who thinks he is all that and is selfish. What happens when Aryan Khanna's biggest fan turns into his enemy? Find out more in theatres near you!

On the down side, the screenplay could have been crafted in a better manner and perhaps instead of all those dragging action sequences we could have a lot more sensible drama. Maneesh could have further explored with the idea of what was actually taking place in both the lead character's heads.

Fan is a dark and powerful psychological thriller that is perhaps an lesson to both stars and fans to not encourage fan activities that go beyond the limits. It is fine to be a fan or an admirer of a celebrity, but let's keep within our limits. The climax will leave you a little shocked and sad, but that is the reality we face in this world.

Overall, It's fair to say that SRK has brought his brand value back with a interesting yet offbeat film. Fan might not please all types of audiences, but it will surely open everyone's eyes!
