Yes Parineeti was offered the role but she declined for reasons I dont remember now. She might have done a better job as her Hyderabadi accent in DEI was fine. As an actress she is fine but always doing similar roles which has made her repetitive.

I think Alia is ok if you compare her to her contemporaries. Shraddha, Kriti and even more experienced actors would have probably done a worse job. But they hyped her look like anything so I was expecting it to be really outstanding like Randeep's was in Sarabjit. It is being said she is playing a Bihari laborer which means her accent is even worse off. I know pretty well as my mom's family resides in Bihar and some of our friend and neighbors are also from Bihar. So whether she is playing an educated Bihari or an uneducated one her accent is off.

Her accent is quite okay. Even in reality, the authenticity of language goes for a toss when you are migrating for work. You accommodate your accent and slang in order to be understandable. It becomes a mish-mash as you twist the same language and are not learning a new one. And most of the times it sounds like Hindi only with slightly different slang and pronunciation and different usage of words while addressing oneself and other things.

Though I agree with Serotonin that it does have a Haryanvi touch..but that doesn't really bother me.

as far as i know udta punjab was first offered to pari but i think kjo is co producing it so .
she is fine as bihari the issue is she is playing uneducated bihari for that she is horrible.

and she is playing a labourer. so for me its kinda underwhelming.

I didn't know Parineeti was offered the role, but no KJo is not co-producing this film. Balaji Films is, and they came on board after this cast was finalized. So no connection there at all. No one pulled strings in favor of Alia and against Parineeti. If Parineeti was offered the role she probably turned it down on her own. That's probably how Shahid's recommendation of Alia for this role came about, after Parineeti's rejection.

I hate to go off topic but if true then it look so Iike another bad decision by Parineeti after Piku.
