Whether it is action or reaction, one should not loose sense.

Wow! "Exclusive group"...okay. Firstly we live in a secular democracy whether one likes it or not. So that is ingrained in our constitution. The so called branding that you are talking about is done by those "others" themselves since one's words and actions are what you usually judge people on. If I'm not wrong it was you I was having a discussion with not so long ago regarding Manusmriti. Read it :) When the parent organization of a certain party considers that book the be all and end all of everything then nobody really has to put any effort in branding anyone as that is blatantly evident.

How did the Gujrat riots even come up here? But since it has, what exact action and reaction are you talking about? Kindly elaborate so I can understand you better.

Yeah...now we need to learn "sense" from folks who believe one religion is better than the others...please!

Manusmriti is not Quran for Hindus
Mythic King Manu wrote Manusmriti
It is said to be oldest lawbook of India There are many such book not only Manusmriti.
It can have faults in it but I dont think any historical king followed this book.
Smritis can be modified
Most of hindus also dont know anything like Manusmriti exist
In Hinduism thousands of scriptures are there
Four Veda,18 main purans (countless other purans)
Then I think 18 Upanishads (Countless other lesser known upanishads)
Then Ramayan,MahaBharat,YogaVasitha etc
Then Shahintas,Shrutis,Smritis

Hahahaah! Who said anything about Hindus! I'm a hindu and sure as hell I don't follow that bull. There are many proud hindus in this nation who don't follow that bull. Only the ones who believe in Hindutva , who believe India should be a Hindu Rashtra follow that crap. It's a book that the parent organization of a certain party believes in , it's one that is taught in their shakhas so I have no clue as to what you were trying to say there.

"Manusmriti" 😆. First you need to tell me, which king, which kingdom, which dynasty in which era ruled according to that book? (Sharia laws are still practised). You claim RSS want to rule according to Manusmriti, but never produce any evidence. I had answered in that thread itself, I can counter logic, not rhetoric.

Last time, someone brought some lines in Kuran in IF. They were quoting some lines from Internet. Someone replied back. So book can be learnt by reading it on some hate website. I agree with that. Can I ask the same thing about Manusmriti? Have you read it? (I have not read it completely. Nor have I read all the Vedas. When I have not read anything completely, I don't think I have the right to claim whether the book is good or bad). As far as I know it contains many good things. Also some, which is offensive in this era.

The people who burnt the pages of Manusmriti said, it offends women. They did not say (or know), the same book says, "Where a woman is worshipped/respected, God stays there". The same book also says, "A woman should not be allowed freedom" in some other place. Why such contradictory statements in the same book? If we read that line in the context, it says "a father has look after when she is young, later husband then son". So it means, she needs to be guarded.
One can ask, why does she need to be guarded. I will take the help of Kuran, which was also written in medieval era, which says it is okay to use the slave woman if she is not Muslim (which is quoted by ISIS). That does not mean, Kuran disrespected women. In that era, women were considered assets. Precious may be, but still assets. Hence, the words like "using", "guarding".
If you read, Hammurabi's code also, you will find something good, something you won't agree with. We have to leave every book to that era. We can take what we agree with and leave the rest which may have been okay in todays period.
I am quite sure, JNU people will not burn any pages from Kuran. I don't want it either. I don't consider burning a book as an intellectual act.

Today we have a constitution which is based on human rights, not on any religion. Let's be happy.

I don't think these are SRK fans. Rather I think they're trolls creating fake IDs to create more problems for SRK since Fan is on the verge of release.

Come what may, Fan will be a hit!

You didn't even know about Manusmriti so countering it is out of the question 😆 RSS can't effing rule according to that book since there is something called as the Indian constitution. They are trying all they can do undermine that constitution but hopefully there will never be a time where this country will be ruled by that book. Anyone who knows a little about the RSS history would know that the oh so wonderful leaders of their past that the party worships infact did want India to be ruled by it at one point. It just so happens that even then the majority weren't bigoted :) What the book preaches is taught in the RSS shakhas so to say it's relevance is not there anymore is hilarious to say the least considering it's still the book that the RSS goes by.

Yes, I have read enough to know how discriminatory and misogynistic it's to put it politely . And of course you'd bring up the Quran! I wasn't part of that discussion so I have no clue what was said in that thread neither am I someone who has read the Quran so all of those things that you are bringing up should be brought up to someone who has read some of it or most of it. I'm talking about what I have read here. You quoting verses from the Quran or the bible to me won't make the text of manusmriti sacred. And it's not one verse that I'm talking about here. There is so much in that book that is derogatory to say the least. Whether it be its view on women , on people belonging to so called low caste etc.

Well I don't represent the whole of JNU so you;ll have to put that question to them :) Besides to compare a Quran to manusmriti is again amusing to say the least. Manusmirit ain't a book that most hindus consider as religious text. It's what the RSS considers as sacred! Not that I'm condoning the book burning. But kindly know the ones who burned it were infact ex members of ABVP 😆

And thank God for small mercies 😃 It doesn't mean one should take that constitution for granted. If the steps to undermine it aren't evident to you then perhaps you need to look a little harder. Every other day there's something more ludicrous than the other being said by the members of the ruling party or its parent organization , every other day there are things happening around us that go against the very constitution so yes one should be extremely happy that we still have that wonderful text that governs us all but at the same time the fight to protect it from all the forces that threaten is a must as well.
