"Raees" stirs up YouTube Storm

"Raees", the latest big screen venture of Bollywood super star Shah Rukh Khan appears all set to storm the box office, if the response on the internet to its trailer is anything to go by.

Khan launched the trailer of the movie, directed by Rahul Dholakia on Wednesday and in the first 24 hours it was watched over 12 million times on Youtube.

The actor plays the role of a liquor baron in the 'dry' state of Gujarat.

At about 2.45 minutes, the trailer of "Raees" is fairly long and Khan occupies most of the screen time while Nawazuddin Siddiqui as a police officer also gets a large chunk of attention. Pakistani actress Mahira Khan appears as Raees Alam's love interest Mohsina, and there is also a glimpse of Sunny Leone who makes a special appearance in a reworked version of the Zeenat Aman hit song "Laila O Laila".

"Raees" was originally scheduled for commercial release in July last year but was deferred to make way for Salman Khan-starrer "Sultan". The new date has been pegged at January 25, 2017.

Shah Rukh Khan has starred in two films this year and made a special appearance in a third. He had a double role in "Fan", featured in "Dear Zindagi" and had a cameo in Karan Johar's "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil".

Rahul Dholakia shot into limelight with his 2005 film "Parzania" based on communal riots in Gujarat of 2002.

Shah Rukh Khan's look as the Gujarati don in 'Raees' decoded

By Sonil Dedhia and Aastha Atray Banan | Posted 09-Dec-2016Now Available on the mid-day iOS App, Download Now

From his glasses, surma to his clothes, stylist Sheetal Sharma deciphers Shah Rukh Khan's look as the Gujarati don from his upcoming film 'Raees'

Shah Rukh Khan

Glasses
When I heard SRK's name, I was like, glasses? SRK's eyes do the talking, so I was apprehensive. But, he loved this idea too. I showed him 10 options and he chose a pair of plastic chashmas I'd bought from a dingy shop in Chor Bazaar. He said it was a bit distorted and not aligned, which suited his character. He said contact lenses has worked for him in Baazigar, and he was game to try eye gear again.

Shah Rukh Khan

Surma
The brief given to me was that it would be a masculine, manipulative character. I went ahead with kohl eyes for a gritty look. When told about SRK's casting, I wasn't sure if he would wear surma, but he readily agreed. When we met for the first time, he got his make-up man and put on the surma, which has now become a hit.

Shah Rukh Khan

Clothes
SRK told me to keep things as organic as I could. So, I referred to old photo albums of my friends from Gujarat. I wanted to know how their grandparents dressed. I have used terricot, teriwool and velvet fabrics, which are not used anymore. I shopped for it from Ahmedabad, Surat and Junagarh. SRK would wear them, stretch in them, sit in them and say 'let them take the shape of my body'.

Sheetal Sharma

Taweez
The film shows a strong bond between his character and his mother. For a symbolic effect, we thought of a taweez (locket) on the arms, but it was clichd. Later, Shah Rukh showed us a pendant " his lucky charm " which he never worn in any of his films. There is an aayat (verse) from Quran inscribed on it and a photo of his parents.

Here's why Shah Rukh Khan starrer Raees' is a must watch film

Currently reading: Here's why Shah Rukh Khan starrer Raees' is a must watch film
India TV Entertainment Desk, New Delhi [Published on:09 Dec 2016, 13:32:42]

The king of hearts Shah Rukh Khan is all set to give the New Year gift to their fans in the form of Raees'. The movie is scheduled to release on January 25 but the recently released trailer has created anticipation among audience. Now, it's difficult for movie buffs to wait for next year. Here are few points that will prove why fans are waiting for the blockbuster with bathed breath.

The fact that Shah Rukh is featured in the movie is enough to attract eyeballs but when the star plays bad, he is even better. Though Shah Rukh has played many negative characters in the past but this time something is different. From his stylish walk to devilish smile, King Khan made Raees' trailer worth the wait.

"Ammi jaan kehti thi koi dhanda chota ya bada nahi hota..aur dhande se bada koi dharm nahi hota..ab yehi mera kalma hai aur yehi mera mazhab." The dialogues of the flick are explosives that surely going to burst the silver screen. Shah Rukh saying some heavy lines in deep baritone will definitely make people jump from their seats.

Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is considered as one of the finest actors of the industry. He has previously worked with Salman Khan and Aamir Khan. The actor plays the role of a cop and will be seen making efforts to put King Khan behind bars. Remember their confrontation in the trailer where SRK said, "Saboot le aaiyee..le jaiye, Raees haajir hai."

Another highlight of the film is beautiful chemistry between Pakistani actress Mahira Khan and SRK. Both are appearing for the first time together and needless to say they looked effortless in 2 minutes trailer. Mahira looked gorgeous on screen especially when she looked into Shah Rukh's eyes and said, "Battery".

Actress Sunny Leone will also be seen performing a dance number in the film. The trailer had a beautiful glimpse of her. Are we going to get another hit dancing number from Shah Rukh's movie? Only the time will tell.

Shah Rukh Khan: I am a very bad boy but my dimples save me

Shah Rukh Khan. Shah Rukh Khan personality, Shah Rukh Khan dimples, Shah Rukh Khan raees, Shah Rukh Khan demonetisation, Shah Rukh Khan bad boy, Shah Rukh Khan thinks himself as a bad boy as being normal is lifeless for him.

Shah Rukh Khan, who released the trailer of his upcoming film Raees on Wednesday, thinks himself as a bad boy as being normal is lifeless for him.

"I am not arrogant or shoddy but I am a very bad boy. I don't go by rules and do and say weird things.

"I am very proud to say that normal is lifeless. You have to be a little mean and when you are that, you're a little bad too. I am extremely bad but my dimples save me," the actor said at the trailer launch of the film, here.

Raees will see SRK in the role of a bootlegger while Nawazuddin Siddiqui is playing a cop.

Speaking about his co-star, Shah Rukh, said, "When all the good artists work together, it makes everyone emotional. I always say about myself that a star comes in poster and takes all the credit but actors like Nawazuddin make us look best on the screen."

More from the world of Entertainment:

"The nicest part of the film is the enactment, the writing and direction of Rahul (Dholakia)," he added.

Shah Rukh also thinks, by the time Raees will release the whole issue of demonetisation will settle down.

While many single screen cinema halls in India have been badly affected by the scrapping of high denomination currency notes, Shah Rukh feels that in a few days from now, the situation will improve.

"I think things will get better as the execution of system takes place. So, I think initially many people have made the choice that entertainment can take a back seat, certain luxury could take a back seat when there is a cash crunch," Shah Rukh told reporters.

"But I think as we have been assured, it is seeming to ease off... and we did notice that with Dear Zindagi. There is a positive difference as far as spending money on entertainment is concerned," he added.

Shah Rukh, whose character has grey shades in Raees, says he tries not to repeat his roles.

He said, "I try my best not to repeat my roles. I try not to be like Anjaam or Darr. If it becomes same type of genre, then there is no point. I think Rahul (director) and his writers have written this character beautifully."

"I believe you should not justify a bad man as a character. I think he is a bad man but he has a good heart. No matter where you reach in your life, as long as you take responsibilities for your action, God will forgive us," he added.

Set in 1980s Gujarat, Raees tells the story of a bootlegger whose business is thwarted by a tough policeman. The film is co-produced by Excel Entertainment and Red Chillies Entertainment.

Directed by Rahul Dholakia, the film also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui and marks the Bollywood debut of Pakistani actress Mahira Khan.

Along with Raees, Hrithik Roshan-starrer Kaabil will also hit the screens on January 25, 2017, a day before the Republic Day. They were earlier scheduled for January 26 release.

Speaking about the clash, SRK said, "We decided this long time back. We made the decision as soon as we came to know that both the films are coming together. Therefore, we took the decision to release the film a day before. Kaabil is coming in evening shows and we are coming on regular shows. It's a logical decision as 26th is a holiday. So, why not take an advantage of that?"
