^ Completely agreed!!! Devdas is a thoroughly overrated story whether it be the book or the movie. It's terrible. Absolutely terrible.

Dang.. totally forgot about BM.. BM right along with PK were the movies that disappointed me the most.. especially given the hype😕

@Mali: No Pather Panchali & a host of Raj Kapoor movies got there much, much before. The west only woke up to Ash & SRK through Devdas.

That's why I said it's one of the movies that raised awareness.

Of course the likes of Raj Kapoor or Satyajit Ray were appreciated but movies like Devdas, K3G and Laagan contributed to boost Indian cinema which appeal was declining with showing at Cannes for Devdas and BAFTA nomination, Oscar nomination for Laagan, K3G was a phenomenal succes at the time of its release and was even shown in countries were Indian commercial films weren't traditionally shown.

The fact that SRK and Aishwarya were the one invited to meet the French President illustrate how much of an impact these movies had.

most praised: PK & 3 idiots- hate both these movies (I've never seen PK, the trailer was enough for me)!

bashed: Lootera, Piku- I absolutely love these films
