I will be happy if I achieve what Maneesh wanted: Shah Rukh
NEW DELHI, FEB 17, 2016, (PTI)
AA
A more than two-decade long illustrious career with close to 100 movies, but superstar Shah Rukh Khan says he felt incompetent filming his upcoming drama "Fan"

The 50-year-old actor believes without director Maneesh Sharma's guidance, he would not have been able to do justice to the character of Gaurav.

"Fan" shows Shah Rukh in double avatars--a superstar, Aryan Khanna and his young look-alike admirer Gaurav. While Aryan is close to how the "Dilwale" star is in real life, it took him some time to understand the psyche of a fan.

"I won't say it was easy because I was playing a movie star, the way I do in real life so it doesn't take you away from the real world... Maneesh and the whole team had a great understanding of how Gaurav was.

"50 per cent of what you see Gaurav is a physical transformation-- prosthetics and the VFX have been used. 100 per cent Gaurav is Maneesh's vision. I don't think I have done 100 per cent what Maneesh may have wanted because he was very clear about it," Shah Rukh told reporters here.

The actor said he is fine with taking credit for a lot of characters he had played in his career, but for this particular role he had to go by the thought process the director had.

"I wouldn't have been able to play the role. I just knew the superficiality of fan before Maneesh told me the depth and how well understood was Gaurav. If I achieve what Maneesh wanted then I will be very happy. I don't know what I was playing; I was just following Maneesh's instructions."

SRK was all praise for the "Band Baaja Baaraat" helmer and his team for "bearing with him."

"I was the oldest on the set; all these kids were very patient with me. Wearing the prosthetics wasn't easy; I used to get irritated as the sweat used to stick on the face. But they bore with me. "We have worked very hard so that it does not look unreal. Also, as I am a known face so it is not easy to play a 50-year-old and then do a more than half-age character," he said.

Shah Rukh also shared that the character of Aryan Khanna will not have any flamboyance, a superstar is attached with usually. "It is a very personal journey of Aryan. We have not shown him flamboyant. He is shown like how I will be at home, with people around. Aryan has a lot of depth."

For "Fan," Maneesh made Shah Rukh re-enact some of his famous scenes but the actor revealed he was not get able to it right at times. "Maneesh wanted me to do some of my earlier scenes and when I did, he would say, 'It does not feel like the way you did it then.' I used to wonder how this is possible. It was nerve-wracking. I was not able to do my own stuff that was shameful," he said.

The "Chennai Express" star believes it will be a never-before seen experience for the audience in terms of the technology.

"The technology, special effects and the make-up used in the movie, I think it is the first of its kind in the world. After 'Fan', Hindi films will be looked up to in the terms of what we can go with visual effects and make-up."

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was in the capital to launch the promotional song of his upcoming movie Fan' with director Maneesh Sharma. The actor, who once couldn't afford to watch a movie in the PVR, was glad to sit there and address the media on February 16.

Shah Rukh Khan entered the hall with fans yelling and shouting out his name. Ofcourse, you feel the aura of a superstar when he enters a place with fans chanting slogans of his name and waving their hands at him telling him they love him more than any other actor. Quiet impressed by seeing this fan frenzy, Shah Rukh Khan was a shy man telling his female fans he loves them as well. (Read: Being a superstar takes you away from the real world: Shah Rukh Khan)

SRK said that he got to experience the Dillipan' that he had almost forgotten all these years.

He said, "When I went to Mumbai from Delhi, I always felt that I should play some "Dilli Ka Launda" in my film, but I didn't get the opportunity to show my Dillipan' and over the years I have seen many actors play that role. I used to be envious of them that I never got that offer. With this film Maneesh got me a lot of things to do. First of all, that he gave me a character of a Delhi boy. The irony is that after staying in Mumbai for 25 years I forgot the dialect of Delhi. So it took time for me to get that dialect." (Shah Rukh Khan receives graduation degree after 28 years)

"We have shot the maximum part of the film in Delhi. Maneesh and I have studied in the same college and I didn't take my degree for 18 years, but I've got it today and am a graduate now officially. Maneesh hasn't got his degree yet, as they don't know if he even passed or failed (Laughs)," added SRK. (Shah Rukh Khan's Raees to clash with Salman Khan's Sultan, confirms Ritesh Sidhwani)

The actor, who is more than obliged to play the character which reminds him of his roots, said that it is not just the story that is special, but the technological effects used in the film and the make up has not been used anywhere in the world. He said, "I hope everyone likes it." (PHOTOS: Shah Rukh Khan, Mahira Khan shoot for Raees' in Ahmedabad, see pics)

SRK said that the song Jabra Fan' is not in the film but is just a promotional song. He cleared that the film is a very different kind and was hopeful of people liking it.

Shah Rukh Khan, who was a fan of many sports personalities and megastar Amitabh Bachchan during his teenage, has millions of fans of himself worldwide now.

King Khan has die-hard fans who sometimes lie down in front of his car, sneak into his bungalow to take a dip in his swimming pool and ofcourse there are some who chant his name everyday. But Shah Rukh Khan revealed at the first press meet of Fan that being a superstar takes you away from the real world for a long time.

The actor is a superstar in real life. When asked how easy or difficult was it to blend into the character of a fan on screen for his forthcoming film, he said, "I won't say it's easy, but yes, being a superstar everyday does take you away from the real world for a long time. So, I would just like to thank Maneesh and his whole team. They had this wonderful understanding of what Gaurav is going to be. Fifty per cent of what you see Gaurav is a physical transformation by the VFX that has been done. And it is possible to say that 100 per cent of what Gaurav is, is Maneesh's vision. I don't think I have done 100 per cent of what Maneesh might had wanted because he was very clear about it so I think I may have got a lot of it right, I may still have fallen short." (Read: Unfortunate that people get negatively affected by films: Shah Rukh Khan)

"I can take credit for a lot of characters I have played until now, but I know this for a fact if there was no guidance from Maneesh in this film, I would not have been able to do it," he added. (PHOTOS: Shah Rukh Khan, Mahira Khan shoot for Raees' in Ahmedabad, see pics)

The superstar had recently stated that he felt Schizophrenic while shooting for fan. When asked the reason behind it, he calmly replied, "I don't say this with arrogance, but a lot of people get inspired in the same city that one person makes it big from. So, he was one of those boys. He went on from his college to doing masters in film. But it was very strange because he should play patches and scenes from my own films and then say we have to do then, and I would do it. He used to say that it is not happening the way you did in this film, I would further tell him that I have only played it in my original film as well. So I was trying to do me as good as he. I was after seeing the same scenes I had done twenty years ago. I was very nervous that I am not able to do what I did twenty years ago, which was really shameful." (Also read: Shah Rukh Khan receives graduation degree after 28 years)

Shah Rukh Khan revealed that he was a fan of Milkha Singh as he loved his stories and him being a champion. SRK revealed that his father used to tell him stories about the athlete. He also said, "Ofcourse most of us grew up being Amitabh Bachchan's fans, and I was one of them too. And strangely since I was a sportsman myself, I was a fan of sports personalities like Sunil Gavaskar and Bruce Jenner who has now become Caitlyn Jenner." Also talking about his fan crazy stories, he said he has been a fan but not to the extent they have shown Gaurav in the film. (Shah Rukh Khan's Raees to clash with Salman Khan's Sultan, confirms Ritesh Sidhwani)

Directed by Maneesh Sharma, also starring newcomer Waluscha De Sousa Fan' will hit screens on April 15.

Like its trailer, the first song of Shah Rukh Khan's forthcoming film Fan captures the culture of celebrity worshipping Bollywood superstars in India. In Jabra Fan, Khan adopts the persona of Gaurav, a young boy obsessed with a Bollywood star similar to his real-life status.

In the opening sequece, Gaurav complains that his family doesn't understand that his idol isn't just a star but his entire world. Images of his hero can be seen everywhere, from billboards, to hand-drawn film hoardings to market stalls. Khan's uninhibited dancing is a lot of fun to watch, but the closing frame suggests that this isn't a film with a happy ending.

The song's setting in the markets and bylanes of Delhi " where Khan spent his early years before coming to India's entertainment capital Mumbai " also hints that there may be several autobiographical elements in the film. It'll be interesting to see if the film gives us any insights into Khan's own journey from being a theatre actor to one of India's biggest superstars.

Fan releases on Apr. 15, 2016.

  • Shah Rukh Khan receives graduation degree after 28 years!

Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan received his graduation degree on Tuesday, 28 years after passing out from Hansraj College in New Delhi. On the occasion, he walk down the memory lane as he recalled his days time at his alma mater.

The 50-year-old Dilwale actor, who was in the capital to launch the anthem of his much-awaited Yash Raj Film, Fan, said he felt special coming back to the campus.

This is a very special moment for me. I am back in my college, which I left in 1988. I am missing only one thing " my children are not with me today, as I wanted to show them every corner of my college," Shah Rukh said at the event.

While presenting him with the degree, Hansraj College Principal Rama Sharma said the institution is proud of its superstar student.

"We are very happy to present him the degree after so many years. We had kept his degree safely in our college. We are proud to bestow him with it today," Sharma said.

The actor also signed the register after taking the DU graduate degree. Shah Rukh, who was born in Delhi, lived in famous localities of the city including Rajendra Nagar and Gautam Nagar. The Chennai Express star studied at St Columba's School and earned his bachelor's degree in Economics from Hansraj.

FAN anthem: Shah Rukh Khan makes us groove, but we miss seeing romance!

Shah Rukh Khan's first song in and out as "Fan" is here, and it truly is the anthem for every fan out there!

FAN MOVIE POSTER
FAN MOVIE POSTER

The song starts with amazing music and fan Aryan Khanna (Shah Rukh Khan as Fan) looking at collages of Shah Rukh Khan in his movies BAAZIGAR, KAL HO NA HO, PARDES, DDLJ and much, much more!

And then starts the magic - where along with the catchy tunes, you see Aryan show us some cool and crazy dance moves at some popular places!

We totally relate to the lyrics too! Psst. There's a line like Mere mobile ka tu unlimited plan ho gaya', which is so true because we are connected to King Khan by the heart!

Somehow, we also notice that the fan has a unique style of dressing, something which cannot match the status of a superstar, but it is just as cool!

However, amongst all the dance steps, we missed seeing a glimpse of romance (which Shah Rukh Khan is known for).

The music ends with Aryan Khanna dancing in the middle of a road, which leads to traffic jam, but who cares? When you want to pay tribute to the biggest superstar, nothing and we mean NOTHING can come in the way!

Undoubtedly, hum tere haaye re jabre fan ho gaye ;)

Shah Rukh Khan's look from his latest film Fan has been doing the rounds for some months now. And like all Shah Rukh Khan fans, we were quite surprised to see his look in the film.

Source: scoopwhoop

To make the wait all the more unbearable, YRF just released the 'Fan Anthem' and it looks like, Shah Rukh, the actor is back. He has shed the star aura and has gotten into the skin of the character of being a superstar's fan. His body language is that of a regular, starstruck guy who loves his idol too much.

After all these years, when everybody thought SRK is just in the business to make money, we are pleasantly surprised to watch him be "the actor" once again.
