From page 01 While shooting for Kapoor & Sons in Coonoor (Tamil Nadu) a couple of months back, the cast and crew of the film indulged in music. Apparently, director Shakun Batra, actor Fawad Khan (who has been part of a band, Entity Paradigm, in Pakistan) and director of photography Jeffery F Bierman would put their guitar skills to good use, and played the instrument for hours on many occasions.
"The guitar was our saviour. We had a few good ones on the sets, which were required for shooting. If one of us reached the sets early, or if we packed-up late, we would pick up the guitar and start strumming," says Shakun, adding that often during the shoot, at the most unpredictable times, they would have a jam session, with the three of them playing the instrument. The entire unit would join in later.
Recalling one of the days, the director says "We had to wait for two hours for the correct lighting. So, Fawad, Jeffery and I started playing the guitar. We played for over two hours while sitting in front of a beautiful valley during sunset. It was mesmerising. We didn't realise that the entire unit had got involved, and we were playing songs on demand (smiles)."
The director feels that "these music sessions" became a great way for the entire team to bond. "Sidharth (Malhotra) played charades and Alia (Bhatt) would play her own games. It might seem like we only had fun, but we worked very hard too. People often say that one shouldn't concentrate on anything else while working, but these activities help you rejuvenate," says Shakun, adding that he is "envious" of Fawad. "He is a fantastic actor, he looks great, and he plays the guitar well. Girls are crazy about him (laughs)," says the director.
