Women power to Bollywood music

With independent music finally making its presence felt in the Indian music industry, it gets better when Bollywood films include a single in their film. And to add spice, Bollywood music composers are including female singers to the tracks.

Music producer Amaal Malik, who recreated singer Fazilpuria's track Chull for filmmaker Shakun Batra's next, feels strongly about adding female voices to the song. Fazilpuria is more than happy with the response to his track and says, "As long as the original composition and vocals are retained, it's fine to add singers."

Singer Aditi Singh Sharma, lent her voice to Kareena Kapoor in her upcoming film, which was originally sung by Yo Yo Honey Singh. She says, "Sometimes it works way better than the original and sometimes it doesn't."

Talking from the perspective of a director, Shashank Khaitan, whose film Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya picked singer Indeep Bakshi's track Saturday Saturday and added Akriti Kakkar's voice, says, "The idea behind introducing the female voice in the track was that it adds another dimension to the song. It adds flavour." However, Indeep has a different point of view. "When people listen to the song they tend to forget whose single it was. There is a difference between producing a song and mixing the song," says Bakshi.

Fazilpuria says, "Any such modifications should be done in consultation and agreement with the original singers and composer."

SOME MYSTERY IS ALWAYS NICE'

Alia Bhatt doesn't intend too talk about her personal life and her alleged lleged relationship with Sidharth Malhotra

Right now, I am so tired that I can't think of anything," says Alia Bhatt, who is all of 22, and is already touted to be one of Bollywood's most promising young stars. These days, the actor has her hands full with the promotions of her next, Kapoor & Sons. Last week, she also finished a shooting schedule of director Gauri Shinde's next, alongside Shah Rukh Khan. Here, she talks about her new film, her alleged boyfriend, Sidharth Malhotra, and her first-ever failure, Shaandaar (2015).

Honestly, Shaandaar not doing well gavee me more strength and calmness. almness. Before that film,m, I used to be more hyper,er, scared and nervous, ass I hadn't experienced failure. ilure. But now, I knoww what it (failure) feels like.ike. I also believe that a goodood film will always do well. You can't cheat the audience.

Is it easier to work rk on a film that has s your friends in the cast and crew?

Of course; especially with Sid (Sidharth arth Malhotra) beingg around, as he is one of the closest people in my life right now. So, whenever I felt low [while working on the film], I knew I had a friend to take care of me. I didn't feel alone. The whole set was like that, because Shakun (Batra; director) is a dear friend and Karan's (Johar; film-maker) company is also like home.

You are often questioned about your relationship with Sidharth. Does that ever get to you?

No, it doesn't. As long as there is a line that's maintained, I am fine. I feel the media has been very sweet about it (smiles). No one has ever really attacked me about it.

Will you continue to keep mum about your personal life?

Yes, I will (smiles). It makes life easier, because then the focus doesn't move away from youry work. And, of course, the mystery remains intact. I feel some mystery is always nicnice.

How was the experience of shooting with SRK?

He is my favfavourite co-star. He is the best to work withwith. He is so easyeasy, understandingunderstandi and adjustinad justing. He does everythingeveryth properly and is very obedient; and that's really inspiring. He is a delight to have on the sets. I got to learn so much from him. I also understood the way he functions.

Does working with someone like Shah Rukh keep you on your toes?

Yes, absolutely. I wasn't really nervous about working with him. In fact, I felt easy, because we chilled and talked about a lot of things in between shots. But working with someone like him gives you the chance to learn so much. I learnt that it is important to be aware of your character, and then, how not to switch off on the sets. If you are constantly switched on, you will be able to absorb so much more [about your character].

Is it a difficult movie?

No film is easy. This character is very close to my personality. So, in that sense, it's easy as well as difficult. It's very relatable.

Did you feel bad about the jokes people made about Shaandaar?

The jokes will keep happening. We constantly joke about other people's films. For five-six days, I felt extremely bad. But then, you pick up the pieces and move on. Failure is not easy to deal with, but you can't take it too seriously.

Do you feel that failure should not be taken for granted?

You can't take a film's failure for granted, because producers are investing in it, and audiences are paying money to watch it. So, you have to assure them a good time. You don't want to disappoint people. But, at the same time, I can't be like, "I am not going to do a film like this ever again." I have to take risks and make mistakes to make good choices.

How do you feel about being counted among the top female actors in Bollywood today?

What I expect of myself is of paramount importance to me. The audiences' expectations are also important, but I can't keep thinking about that. If I do, I won't be able to live freely. I can't take myself too seriously. It's important to be hard-working and passionate, but it's not important to nitpick, as that will make things boring. I'd rather be weird than boring (smiles).

There are a lot of talented actors in Kapoor & Sons. How challenging has your role been?

My screen time in the film is possibly the least, because it doesn't revolve around my character. So, making my presence felt, and making my character solid and rounded, was a challenge. I just want to be part of quality films, even if I don't have the biggest roles in them.

Fawad's attitude was awesome. Boys didn't dance much though. Overall thumbs up! Signature tune is very catchy indeed.

I agree. I didnt like the song when I heard it but the actual picturization was pretty good and it didnt sound bad. Alia did dance the best and the they covered the lack of dancing skills of the guys well especially Fawad. This is the first time he's doing a typical BW dance number and he carried it off well. I am sure he will improve from here onwards.

hajmola, thanks for the article i m glad alia's role is short, i really want the brother angle explored a bit

i m watching this movie on the friday it releases maybe not first show but definitely on the first day. i couldn't watch khoobsurat when it released in theaters and fawad took 2 years break, never watched him on big screen

When asked about her birthday plans, the "Highway" actress revealed that she will be busy promoting her film "Kapoor & Sons" which is slated to release on March 18 this year.

"I have put all the responsibility on Sid's (Sidharth Malhotra) shoulders because he is a Delhi boy. So, I said now it's your turn. You need to take over." Although Alia will not be having a grand celebration, she will be in Delhi promoting the film with Sidharth on her birthday.
