Yes, MNIK's lack of praise with the audience compared to the other 2 movies is interesting, especially since it was the first of the three to use the common formula between them. It'd be interesting to hear good theories or arguments about why exactly this is the case.

Putting aside OTT-ness, melodramaticness, KJo, etc...I think MNIK was too 'un-Indian' ...too foreign. Regular Indians in India simply couldn't relate to it. They found it slow & boring as the racial profiling problem wasn't and isn't a big concern. In contrast, BB & PK are much simpler tales rooted in India and tackle more 'Indian' issues if that makes any sense. MNIK was also the 3rd film in a row about a similar issue after NY, Kurbaan. I think fatigue had set in by that point.

I don't really agree with this.NY and Kurbaan focussed more on the aspect of terrorism emerging from racial profiling and discrimination...MNIK took a very different track from both these films in the way it approached the subject and the very core of the issue...using a character like Rizwaan and his way of looking at life to approach the painful reality of this issue for the ppl affected by it...NY and Kurbaan were more revenge focussed.Otherwise yes I agree, unless people have lived abroad and lived through that scrutiny that is a reality for many expats, they will not get why this is such a relevant issue.
