I haven't watched MNIK yet but from little I can assume, it dealt with issues that was dealt by Muslims in USA/UK hence Indian audience couldn't relate to it.
BB I loved it but the last 10/15 mins just dragged. Salman was really good, I actually felt like I was watching Prem from the 90's.
PK- I rather watch OMG.

My favouritsm 4 srk dissappeared after MNIK, i went to the theatre 4 this film bcos i usd to like srk and love srk kajol and never thought the film will be dissapointing . There was no spark and srk was no way good in that film ,he had nt done his homewrk nicely.

PK may be average but the film had good humour and nice moments throughout ,a good one time watch.

Well BB is pretty far ahead of these 2 films in my opinion, that film and will never get old,u will still feel ur eyes getting watery at the end

Well I would say MNIK > PK > BB
I liked all 3 movies, but comparatively MNIK was better. PK & BB had better humor, especially in the 1st half.

Like many mentioned here, I would have rated PK 1st hadnt I watched OMG and loved it like anything! Infact after I saw the trailer of OMG, I would never have watched that movie as I dint like what I saw in the trailer. I was forced to watch that movie in a bus on a long trip and I just loved it! Paresh Rawal >>> Aamir Khan!

And its surprising the movie became a superhit inspite of having no star power. I would really recommend you to watch it even though you have watched PK - the story might be similar but execution and the trail of story telling is very different. Paresh Rawal is just too good! I dont generally watch movies more than once unless I REALLY love a movie, but I actually watched a movie with Paresh as lead 3 times 😆! It had a certain repeat value for me. The dialogues are so sensible and tight, you wont get bored.

So I would highly recommend you to watch it 👍🏼 ! Its there on Netflix.

Have I missed something or I can't recall the last time you made so many random threads in the bolly forum?😆

Re: Topic...personally I don't think any of the 3 movies is a clear winner over one or the other...even in terms of themes, everything is subjective.

BB: What worked for this movie was the superb casting of the little girl and the ability to put across a message in a simple, soulful fashion without getting super preachy or OTT about it until the very end. The movie had it's heart in the right place and the right level of popular sentiment in it to get widespread acceptance.

PK: Unlike what most ppl in this thread mentioned, it is not the similarity to OMG that is a shortcoming for this film as much as the fact that Hirani essentially repackaged his basic formula yet again and that is what caused viewer fatigue for me in some ways. Every Hirani movie is always about this one character who views the world differently and has quirky observations about it and ultimately imparts a social message of some form. This time, he just took it one step further with making the guy an alien literally. OMG focussed more on a journey of faith...a man's personal relationship with God and how that evolves, all of this woven in with tackling the issue of greedy and selfish Godmen etc...OMG focussed more on a personal relationship with God than PK did...PK focussed more on the repercussions of blind faith and how those are being misused by Godmen.

I agree that it had a very entertaining first half with trademark Hirani humor that's always fun but the second half really tested my patience and this film didn't really have any interesting supporting characters like previous Hirani films...no Circuit, no Chatur that could be considered memorable.

MNIK: This movie was genuinely different for it's time for the subject it dared to tackle especially the director who chose to make this as a departure from his usual stuff...if I was to compare to the other two films we are discussing here, neither of those two directors diverted from their tried and tested easy formulas as much as KJo did with this film and what he tried to accomplish...that is not to say it was a perfect script or didn't succumb to OTT melodrama at some points...but this film also had it's heart in the right place to begin with and has some great acting in it as well...the breakdown scene of Kajol with her son's dead body truly is indeed some of the best acting I've ever seen.

So I don't have a rating😆

Yes, MNIK's lack of praise with the audience compared to the other 2 movies is interesting, especially since it was the first of the three to use the common formula between them. It'd be interesting to hear good theories or arguments about why exactly this is the case.

Putting aside OTT-ness, melodramaticness, KJo, etc...I think MNIK was too 'un-Indian' ...too foreign. Regular Indians in India simply couldn't relate to it. They found it slow & boring as the racial profiling problem wasn't a big concern for them. In contrast, BB & PK are much simpler tales rooted in India and tackle more 'Indian' issues if that makes any sense. This if you notice MNIK appealed very greatly to Muslims or the people who are affected by the issues presented in the film. MNIK was also the 3rd film in a row about a similar issue after NY, Kurbaan. I think fatigue had set in by that point.

I don't really agree with this.

NY and Kurbaan focussed more on the aspect of terrorism emerging from racial profiling and discrimination...MNIK took a very different track from both these films in the way it approached the subject and the very core of the issue...using a character like Rizwaan and his way of looking at life to approach the painful reality of this issue for the ppl affected by it...NY and Kurbaan were more revenge focussed.

Otherwise yes I agree, unless people have lived abroad and lived through that scrutiny that is a reality for many expats, they will not get why this is such a relevant issue.

Havn't watched BB .
PK- Weakest Hirani film by a mile. It was again..Hirani trying to package alot of things . Also, might be in minority , I really thought Aamir was too rehearsed .."the act" was too visible. It doesn't stay with you as an emotion.

MNIK was a brave attempt with KJO chickening in the end. He had a good idea but like KANK he failed in the execution especially in the second half..that flood portion was so not needed. If he had kept it simple and focused on the emotion, it would have worked. I also don't really think SRK was good but Kajol with that one scene shut it beyond.

I think MNIK was going on a good track but then plods on a silly road . It could have been a really powerful film. Oh Well.

I definitely agree that MNIK was a very different take than the other two but I meant that people saw it as another movie about terrorism in post 9-11 America. I was trying to give a couple of reasons to answer Kabeera's question about why MNIK isn't as big. Personally I think the biggest reasons are the people being unable to relate and then KJo's love for melodrama lol.

BB abs PK kept it simple. Though personally I don't care for PK as a film. It is Hirani's most forgettable work and weakest in terms of writing. BB is definitely better.
