Global icon.. Please spell it properly.. Yes his popularity saved his film.. But there's only that much he can do.. This and PRDP scenario proved that audiences are making better decisions in regards to film.. Directors have to know that screenplay and storyline is the key to prolonged success of a film.. But if a director wants a temporary success by half baking his film and using a star to make it work, this is what will happen.. Yes SRK is a global icon, but its not like everyone in the world are his fans.. See I disliked Dilwale as a film.. I didnt like SRK's competitiveness and his decision to release it on the same day as BM.. But Ill be stupid to deny his popularity.. As simple as that..

Wait...there were protests against BB...huh? SK apologized the day after going on that rant on twitter! Not just him but his father apologized too! As for PK, the protests started almost two weeks after its release and by then the movie had already done quite a bit of business. It's baffling that there's even a comparison! The protests against Dilwale started on the very Friday it released. Around 800-1000 shows of the movie were cancelled during the first weekend! The movie wasn't allowed to have a full release in as many as four states out there! In Mangalore it wasn't released at all until a woman there filed a complaint against the morons who were threatening theatre owners! There was a negative campaign against it on twitter and WhatsApp! And these aren't excuses but mere facts. Tons of people out there boycotted the movie because of the statements Shahrukh made and unlike SK, he didn't backtrack or apologize which is what these people wanted him to do. Besides since when has Shahrukh given an excuse. All he said was the movie didn't do as it was expected to in India! But to say that none of these factors had an impact on the collections...I mean...come on! And why would the fans need to give an excuse. Dilwale underperformed in India...everyone knows that but the circumstances surrounding it had a role to play as well. I mean it's the second highest grosser overseas of 2015! For a movie that was trashed by everyone and their brother, it sure has darn well abroad. Wonder why...hmm...:p

Oh did he! Kindly do watch the interview he did with Komal Nahta last year. That dud is btw the second highest grossing movie of last year...lol! And if accepting that it didn't do as well as expected in India is now called giving an excuse then I guess your definition of excuse is slightly different from what the term means.

Okay im going try to explain this the best way i can.
BB was a good movie. With a good script and direction. After salman n salim apologies the protest started to die down and the movie took over. People genuinely like the movie cause it was good and it continued to make money for months.

when PK released know one knew what the storyline was about. The protest started sunday or monday i think. The movie had made good money on the weekend. The protest were religious not political. the Politicians stayed as far from is as possible since politicians dont interfere in religious matter much for obvious reasons. After the religious leader started protesting, the public's interest piqued and half the people went to watch the movie to see what was so special about the movie that the protest were happening. me and parents went to watch the movie because of the same curiosity. we didn't find anything special in the movie.

Now coming to DW. the movie wasnt a masterpiece. it had a weak script and bad editing. Just like PRDP. Now im talking about PRDP because that movie made most of its movie on the first weekend itself and from monday it started crashing. Because it was bad movie. And in normal cases that what happens to weak script or masala movies, they make most of their money on the first weekend and then crash on monday. But DW didnt get a chance to make money on the first weekend because from the very first day the political parties were protesting. some states banned the movie, some theaters were destroyed, some theaters stopped showing it. When i went to watch DW on the first day there were 2 police vans stationed outside. Theaters some town over were being destroyed for showing DW. Plus there was a clash so screens were divided.

I tried to explain the best way i can. But since you hate SRK i doubt you will try to understand what im trying to say.
