Another possibility is Amarendra fighting for his rights after knowing Bhalla's tyrant ways... But in middle of the fight Devasena is captured and Amarendra breaks in trying to save his love only to be killed/stabbed..

By then a fed up Sivagami attempts fleeing taking Deva.. but only to know that she is in labor.. Mahendra is born and Deva takes Promise from Sivagami to save her son, Amarendra's progeny and Maahishmati's rightful prince.. Which she does.. While She stays to see the downfal of Bhalla as Mahendra returns
