Anurag Basu: I'd rather work with risky Ranbir than boring Salman
PTI | Nov 24, 2015, 01.22 PM IST

Anurag Basu is collaborating with Ranbir Kapoor for his next Jagga Jasoos and the filmmaker is unfazed by the actor's poor run at the box office as he says he prefers to work with a risk-taker like him than a "boring" actor like Salman Khan.

Basu, who has earlier directed Ranbir in Barfi!, said he admires Ranbir's experimental nature the most.

"I am glad there is an actor like Ranbir who is taking the risk. There are not many actors, who would do it. He is not like Salman who is doing same thing film after film. He is boring. How can you do that?," Basu told PTI on the sidelines of NFDC Film Bazaar.

"At least he is experimenting with his craft, he is pushing the envelope, and he is taking the risks," he added. The director said Ranbir's risks may not be paying off the way he would want it to, but at least as an actor he is getting the satisfaction of doing varied roles.

"It is not paying off but at least he is getting the satisfaction of doing those films. He is playing different characters, they are so different form each other. Very few actors do that," he said.

Ranbir's last two releases Besharam and Bombay Velvet bombed at the box office but Basu feels it is not the actor's fault.

"In India people blame actors for the failure of a film. But it is not up to them, it is the director. But still people blamed Ranbir.

Wow, from Kashyap to Basu - taking pot-shots at Salman. God bless, JJ now.

Abhinav delivered Besharam after his alleged "feud" with Salman; AK delivered Ugly and BV, and now... The trend isn't good, Basu sir. 😆

Teri... Yeh Teri Woh...

Sometimes, it is easy to take risk and fail... but it is very hard to be repetitive and be succesfull..

Beta, pehle kuch banjao.. phir risk lo.. warna,, kab aye kab gaye pata bhi na chale..

well agree...but thats how salman fans like him...thats what people want to see in salman...the action hero...larger than life canvas...
RK can't even do half of what KHANS has done in his age...they did action...romance...negative character...comedies and RK is limited only a few genre...romance and character driven roles...he sucks in comedies...action doesn't suit him...as an actor one should expose to all genre...RK has lots of weak points in other genre...while salman excels in all genre over 25 yrs except for negative roles..thats is why he is a megastar...

whats wrong with this guy...comparing RK with salman...he is sick in the head...i guess...comparing RK with an actor who is ruling BW for 25 yrs...if he compare salman with KHANS...ajay...akshay...or even hrithik...its acceptable but RK..biggest joke...

Dibakar Banerjee, Imtiaz Ali, and Tigmanshu Dhulia are in the same gang, but you never see them making such controversial statements. Other great filmmakers like Sriram Raghavan and Shoojit Sircar too don't take snipes like this...

It's really strange why he felt the need to say this. It was totally uncalled for.

I guess he was drunk while giving the IV...i found it stupid...comparing RK with salman who has 25 yrs experience in the field...how stupid...at RK's age...salman did all genre and excel in it...
