Pretty sure that Peshwa women covered their midriff, there is no way they would wear such a short blouse. Peshwa's were super conservative and followed strict purdah for their women folk. Rani Laxmibai's father worked for the Peshwa's and she is always depicted wearing the full blouse covering the upper portion of the body in all her paintings and she much later than Bajirao's time.
So how can women belonging to an era before Laxmibai wear midriff barring blouses? Not that anything is wrong with taking some creative liberty, but I mentioned it cause SLB is supposed to be very particular about the authenticity of costumes ect.
Islam had very much entered India by the time of Bajirao, so if what you say is true, then all the more reason that Hindu women of that era, that too belonging to royal families, would dress up far more conservatively than shown in the song.
There was recently an exhibition in Baroda where the sari collection of the Baroda Royal Family (descended from the Peshwa's) were displayed and the current Maharani modelled in some of them. All the blouses she wore with the Sari's tied in Maharashtrian style were covering her mid-riff (and they were vintage pieces, not new ones)
