Director Karan Johar shares a deep connect with one of his student - Varun Dhawan. Launched by his mentor in 2012, in Student of the Year, Varun's rise to success has been phenomenal. With the ongoing MAMI 2015 in Mumbai, Karan chose the platform to speak at length about his protegee, Varun, whom the director has known since he was 17. According to Karan, he vividly remembers how he first met Varun at Taj in Goa, where his parents, director David Dhawan, pointed at his son, who as per Karan, 'was a bit of an exhibitionist' being bare chested, parading in tiny swimming shorts all through the hotel, and the director in him could spot a star-in-making in Varun. Karan fondly shares how when Varun's parents approached him to for an EDM's post in Karan's My Name is Khan, and how as per Karan, Varun defined the term; Energy, Determination and Motivation! Karan states that Varun is liking a walking-talking treadmill and he has seen more energy in him than anyone around. Karan finds Varun exuberant nature extremely endearing and charming and believes that the young star will continue to win the hearts of many. Karan jokingly mentioned how he knows all the secrets of the actor and lies, considering how thick they are, but won't spill any beans.
