The re-launch of the "Hero"

I watched the movie on Friday, I was worried, as I read bad reviews, and there was not much crowd in our cinema either. I was upset with the bad reviews because it has been ages since I have seen a good romantic love story, and I was really looking forward to watching the remake of the famous Subhash Ghai's late 80's saga by the same name that launched Jackie Shroff.

To be honest, I was sold with the first scene and introduction of the "Hero" aka Sooraj's entry itself! Not only does this guy have great body, but man o man he has some amazing body strength, I was shocked at how he pulled his body weight in the first scene, and I was also impressed with his action fight skills! It was an apt entry of a perfect Hero who is there to save the day! Then later I got sold by Sooraj's amazing dancing skills in the song "Hero ke bhi hero hum" and was totally sold with the chemistry he shared with Athiya aka the heroine "Radha".

Then of course came the sequence of the kidnapping, and the sequences of Radha being all alone with Sooraj and his friends, now this is where things could get disinteresting! However the screenplay, acting and direction was top-notch! Those sequences not only showed great chemistry between the Hero and Heroine, but even showed amazing chemistry amongst the friends with Sooraj and Radha! So the first half was quite flawless and brilliant! When the interval happened I really wondered as to why this movie got bad reviews, and got worried about the second half as that is when things can get stagnant, as it shows the struggle of the two lovers to stay together, I remember how melodramatic and prolonged was the second half of the original Subhash Ghai film!

Then started the second half of the film, and again I found it brilliant from the word go, more amazing chemistry, more heart touching moments, more good songs and very less time spent on unnecessary prolonged drama and fight sequences, the character jimmy was not given too much screen space, and was bearable, moreover vivan bhatena was entertaining, and his character was not shown lusty or as violent as shakti kapoor's character which was a big relief! All in all the second half had a good mix of elements and it managed to entertain me throughout!

Now coming to the performances, Sooraj Pancholi was absolutely brilliant as "Sooraj" he gave his character a very endearing quality, which is challenging when your character is shaped up to be a "alpha-male" I really loved his portrayal of the character, and I do feel he is very talented and will go a long way if he chooses the right scripts and if the Jiah Khan controversy does not haunt him! Athiya was also brilliant! She seemed annoying in promos, but she surprised me with her acting and her portrayal of Radha! It is an insult to compare her to Sonam who has such bad dialogue delivery and is such a pathetic actress! Athiya also has a very good future, all she needs to do is choose the right scripts! Sharad Kellkar as Athiya's brother was brilliant, he lent a good support to the movie, Anita Hassanandani was wasted, Vivian Bhatena as the villain was also very good! The songs were also really soothing and beautiful! And really added to the beauty and romance! Overall I will give this movie a 4.5/5

Finally watched today. I went sooo hopeless but strange I liked movie in tids n in bits
Loved new comers .loved the chemistry between leads.sooraj is pretty good.atiya is not bad but still she has to improve. Still old hero movie u can't compare this hero with that. It has shammi kapoor, sanjeev, bindu, amrish puri & shakti.plus subhaash ghaii factor. Nikhil advani I a terrible director.i have no complaints from attIya n sooraj as they did there job perfectly. Nikhil should be blamed.the music, the leads chemistry is a savior. Although liked Vivian and sharad. Tigmanshu should NT be casted as radha father.sooraj n aditya Chem as father n son is good.
Overall Ok. But loved radha n sooraj.

Hero Movie Review

A Fairy Tale Far From Reality

Hero is among the most awaited movies of Bollywood this year, which is a remake of a Subhash Ghai 1983 film with the same title starring Jackie Shroff. In fact, the classic film of eighties was the debut of Jackie in B Town unlike the way this remake is for Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty. The film has therefore two novices who are opening their career in B Town with Hero, which is directed by Nikhil Advani, while it is produced by Salman Khan along with Subash Ghai. The music comes from a slew of people including Meet Brothers, Sachin-Jigar and Amaal Malik. Now, let's look deep into the film to get the gist of the same.

Story/Plot

Sooraj is a gangster with the same name from Mumbai who get the chance to meet Radha played by Athiya Shetty who is the daughter of Police Chief. He then approaches Radha posing herself to be an inspector to take her to some other place, later she realises that she was kidnapped by none other than a person who is a gangster. However, amidst all hue and cries along with the tantrums of a Police chief daughter love blossoms and rest is history. So, what happens when a boy and girl of different statuses come together with love? The two worlds simply collide, while the two are seen struck in a whirlpool of an intense kind of love story for which they can do anything. In other words, it is a story of love under confrontation, but how will the love prevail is an interesting question to find answer, which will be found out once you catch the film.

Script Analysis

As far as the script is concerned, there is hardly any change in the base story of the film unlike seen in the 1983 classic. However, the difference is the age the two movies are made one goes before the communication era, while the other is made in the era of smartphone and internet. So, you can feel the difference in the two yet the comparison with the older one seems futile. As Hero of 1983 is considered to be among the classics of Bollywood, which I doubt can happen with the newly released one. There are too many loops and vacuums in the film, which remains unfulfilled and addressed. Frankly, the script sounds boring a bit when the film starts and with passage of time gains momentum. Yet the amount of time it takes is long and would thus give too many loo breaks to the audience.

Star Performance

The lead actors of the film - Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty playing the characters of Sooraj and Athiya respectively are making debut with this movie, hence expecting much from the two would be rather unfair. Honestly speaking, the duo seemed lagging behind many ways and would need a couple of movies and diligence to prove their worth over the silver screen. Though Sooraj seemed cute but the look of a gangster seemed missing, which was vividly seen in the case of Jackie Shroff in the classic of 1983. A gangster with a look, who has been raised in the merciless streets of Bombay, seemed unrealistic making it appear like a fairy tale. Similar was the story of Athiya who remained lagging behind in many ways. However, for Sooraj, it was interesting to catch certain action sequences in the film; the bare body of the actor can prove out to be lucrative to some extent.

Music, locations, screenplay, direction and technical stuff

As far as the music of the film is concerned, overall the songs seems cool and some of them are raising high over the chartbuster list. The title song by Salman Khan seemed rocking as people could hardly believe how soothing Salman Khan can sing. The film will certainly give a good boost in terms of music. Now, talking about the direction, it seemed okay, but considering the fact that the film has two newbie in it, you cannot expect much from the director to portray the things the best. As far as the locations are concerned, these seemed okay and similar is the story with the technical aspects like screenplay, editing and other elements.

Hero - The Last Word

In a film of love and confrontation, with two novices in the lead role is hard to digest. With too much of expectation with the film and actors working in it, the film though managed to get a good promotion in the media, but seems lagging behind in many ways. However, remove all the expectations and buzz around the film owing the presence of Salman Khan and his brand, you can find the film to be okay in perspective of novices. So, the only issue that is seen doing the damage is the over expectations. Yet it can prove out to be a worthy film to catch for the youngsters who hardly know anything about the cult classic of 1983.

Story:
Top cop Mathur's daughter, Radha (Athiya Shetty) is kidnapped by Sooraj (Sooraj Pancholi), the protege of her father's arch-rival. Cupid plays his part in making them fall in love. But, this volatile love story can never end in happiness. Do they give up on each other?

Review: Hero is a delectable synthesis of startling onscreen beauty, dazzling high octane action, melodious music and merry froth. Each frame of the film has been done up with care which is evident in its striking visuals. However, the same doesn't stand true for the story, which is incoherent and often convoluted.

Cut out from the same fabric as Subhash Ghai's 1983 hit of the same name, director Nikhil Advani creates a similar effervescent ambience as the original, bubbling with the energy of its young debutants. Nikhil makes the narrative contemporary without turning it into a ramshackle (an inevitable fate of classics, when remade). The film has so much going in its favour, that the screenplay glitches can be pardoned.

Hero is fuzzy and moving. It has a leading man whose charm will make your heart skip a beat, a defiant damsel who is lovable and a story laden with commercial trappings of naach-gaana and maar-dhaar. The thunderous power-packed action sequences, especially the one in its climax, is pitch perfect and makes you feel the giddiness synonymous with Salman Khan films.

It is cleverly set - in picturesque locales. The affable chemistry of Sooraj and Athiya has a dash of inventiveness. For two newbies, the duo has a strong screen presence. Athiya is a natural and Sooraj owns the titular role with an effortless swagger. His skillful action makes him score over most debutants of recent times.

Sculpted as a full throttle masala entertainer, Hero is plot-heavy. And while you are well acquainted with the story, Nikhil and Salman's sensibility works as midas touch, giving the film a different texture. It is slick and never allows its viewers to feel restless. For its 132 minutes' crisp runtime, Hero offers bucketful of entertainment and victoriously conveys that commercial movies needn't be puerile to show people a good time.

Hero movie review: Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty manage to shine despite a weak script!
This week is one of the most exciting ones for Bollywood as two star kids - Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty will make their Bollywood debut with Salman Khan's production venture. Aditya Pancholi's son and Suneil Shetty's daughter will star in Nikhil Advani's directorial venture, Hero, which is a remake of Subhash Ghai's 1983 classic that starred Jackie Shroff and Meenakshi Sheshadri. I saw the film and here's my take on the new version of the classic film...
What's it about:
Nikhil Advani's Hero begins like any other film with two aspiring debutantes would. The camera plays with Sooraj's well chiseled torso, showcasing his flex ready biceps and that hawk eyed gaze which becomes his USP through the film. A remake of the 1983 Jackie Shroff- Meenakshi Sheshadri film, the story has been given a 2015 makeover. The core elements remain - warring families, puppy love simmering against a bloody backdrop with musical numbers that showcase two newcomers. Athiya Shetty plays Sooraj's love interest Radha, who is a heady concoction of the girl next door who has a dramatic metamorphosis nearing the blood soaked climax. It's a traditional love story tailor made to emphasize Sooraj and Athiya's strengths and attempt to hide their weaknesses. Along the way we meet a bunch of characters played by the parents, friends and not one but two baddies who let Sooraj show off his fighting skills. Sooraj and Radha's love story isn't glitch free, but there it definitely manages to give these two young actors a decent debut vehicle.

What's hot:

From the very first frame Sooraj Pancholi fills up the screen with this charm and sex appeal. There will be a lot of oohs and aahs from girls (and a few boys) when he rips that shirt apart and makes his stunning entry. There is a certain ease about him which leaves a lasting impression. Sooraj will definitely be lapped up after Hero by other filmmakers who would hopefully give him diverse roles. Athiya might bear an uncanny resemblance to Sonam Kapoor, but she breaks that early on in the film. As the goofball who doesn't know what situation she's thrown in, Athiya plays Radha will utmost conviction. The cinematography works in the first half, especially in the scenes up north. Sooraj and Athiya have great chemistry which works in making their story favorable. Aditya Pancholi, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Vivan Bhatena and Chetan Hansraj are the supporting pillars to the love story. Nikhil Advani impresses in scenes where Sooraj and Radha are speaking through their eyes rather than words.

What's not:

The problem lies with the script. It just isn't innovative or fresh enough. Advani plays safe and doesn't offer anything new. The story sort of reaches a stale mate in the second half. The introduction of Vivan Bhatena as the baddie seems like an added distraction to shift focus from the lack of a cohesive plot. Also Athiya's costumes and make up looks sketchy, especially the close ups. There are some badly edited scenes. Sooraj and Athiya fall in a downstream river that oddly takes them up north where Athiya offers prayers to Buddha ji' promising him she will abscond from all things bad. Only if she had made a similar promise after reading the shoddy script. Except the title song, nothing stands out. In fact the Romeo Juliet skit act in the second half just tests our patience wearing us out. Sooraj has a fantastic body, but every time he rips his shirt to shred, we don't need a minute long tribute to his naked torso.

What to do:

Sooraj and Athiya show immense promise. Unfortunately, Hero doesn't do justice to their potential.
