Brothers has turned out to a huge dissappoimtment at the box office as basically it was just Akshay Kumar fighting a lone battle without any support. This is the case with most of his films but they do not cost over 100 crore. Brothers was coming from a production house like Dharma Productions and had another star Sidharth Malhotra and this combo together should have had some clout with the urban youth in the metros.
But when the film opened on Friday, it was just the regular Akshay Kumar markets taking an opening be it Rajasthan, CI, Punjab or Bihar and the urban centres were dull and were saved to an extent in the evening which was due to the holiday on next day.
A few months back Gabbar Is Back released and it pulled through on Akshay Kumar as it did well in markets where his films normally fo well but that film was for those markets so it opened and held. Here the film opened due Akshay Kumar in these markets but the content was more city type so they crashed on Monday.
Another reason Gabbar Is Back pulled through was the lower cost factor and the fact is that a star alone is not going to pull through a 100 crore plus film unless its comes on Eid, Diwali or Christmas. When a film is bigger it needs support from other factors outside the big star but they were not forthcoming with Brothers.
