Ever since it was announced that Gautam Gulati is making his
Bollywood debut with Ekta Kapoor's Azhar
, many had presumed that Gulati would play the lead role of
cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin in the film. However, more
recently the first look of the film hit the web, leaving everyone
amazed watching Emraan Hashmi as Azhar . It can now be officially
disclosed that Gautam will be seen playing Ravi Shastri in the film.

Gulati who won a million hearts with his Bigg Boss stint, will portray
the left-arm orthodox spinner in this biopic. Confirms a source
close to the project, "Yes, Gautam will be playing Shastri whose
friendship with India's former cricket captain, Mohammed
Azharuddin is an integral part of the film. He has been working on
his physique for the past month so he looks more like a young Ravi
Shastri. He has also been attending workshops and viewing
interviews and videos of Shastri to try and imbibe his personality."
Ravi Shastri has been trending on Twitter lately after being elected
team director for India's upcoming cricket tour of Bangladesh. As
per reports, GG will soon take to the field and start practising to
play Shastri's famous chapati' shots.
Talking about the plot, the biopic will narrate all the highs and lows
of the former Indian cricketer. Prachi Desai, who has worked with
Hashmi in Once upon a Time in Mumbai, will be playing his wife,
Naureen in the biopic. Azharuddin's much-talked about affair and
marriage to actress Sangeeta Bijlani too will be shown in the film
and if rumours are to be believed then Jacqueline Fernandez will be
playing Bijlani's role in the film. Azharuddin was also accused of
match-fixing towards the end of his career as a cricketer and the
movie will also look at that.
Directed by Tony D'Souza, Azhar is set to release on May 13, 2016.
