Secondly you can't compare IMDb ratings like this. Rocket Singh doesn't even have 10k votes whereas Haider has around 30k and PK has 60k+

That why I only took those movies with high no of votes so that the bogus votes get sorted out.

In the lesser known tittles it doesn't matter as less people vote 0 or 10 for the sake of it.

Nope it doesn't have the same credibility as Wiki. Nobody take Wikipedia that seriously. Its just there for beginner search and even there it can lead you wrong.

It may-not be perfect (is anything??) but it is the best yardstick available to judge how people think about a certain movie or a TV show.

The argument that people vote 0 or 10 for the sake of it will remain there in each and every criteria you choose when it comes to public opinion; so that becomes redundant.

I agree that IMDB is not very credible for Indian movies but the highest rated Bollywood movies over there are generally the ones which have received so much acclaim from the audience. Of course, there are extremes and trolls but then since we are just looking at them for a general idea. ..itna chalta hai. 😆 While speaking about he number of votes, Many people don't even know about Rocket Singh, but Haider had immense buzz, so that basic difference would be there, I guess. 😆

Having said that, I just checked the ratings of a couple of commercial hindi blockbusters loved by many but their rating on IMDB is pretty low, then how do we judge those movies? They might not be very high on content but have a sheer entertainment value according to the audience.

So yeah, probably we cannot judge the success of commercial masala films with these ratings. Unfair 😆

Also the algorithm they use makes a lot of difference too.

The top voters and critics get the top billing that is to say that their votes count the most.
Also if an account votes just random 0's or ten's it get deducted from the score.

This is further enhanced it the top 250. 3I has a rating of 8.3 there while its 8.5 overall. Those random tens and ones are cut out.

Most I checked have fairly accurate ratings and some were way too high for my liking. For example MNIK has an 8.0 while it in no way deserves that. D3 should be 3 at best yet its 5.5 and so on.

It you check those with a good amount of votes; they are usually fairly accurate most of the time. The lesser known titles like Earth, DG give a fair output too as the trolls haven't heard of them to go ruin everything.

I just noticed that Haider has no '0' votes...😆..I have to say kudos to Aamir for having his movies in Top 250.. To get into it is pretty difficult without lots of votes because of it formula..30K + votes for Haider are also not enough for it to make it there..

@Arsal : Movies like Dhoom 1, Dabangg, Kaho na pyaar hai were very well-received by the audience, but have low ratings. So yeah, I do think we can't judge the success of Hindi commercial movies through IMDB 😛

Any Indian bringing praise for our country is worth applauding. Aamir by getting Lagaan to be listed in Foreign category film, brought that same appreciation. I guess after that only his films were noticed by Foreign ppl also.

True. Lagaan brought Aamir to the worldwide audience. Also having three movies (5 at one time) in the top 250 helps a lot too. Many people watch all those on the list and then if they like it; check out other stuff from the actor/ director.
